Santa Fe College (Mathematics)
Hello, I'm Robyn and I am 28 and have a passion for mathematics. I have taken algebra, precalculus, calculus 1, 2, and 3 and have my associates degree from Santa Fe College in Mathematics. I work full time and have an additional part time job and teaching is a true passion of mine. It started as an interest to just help people who I worked with if they were taking math classes and had questions, but then several different coworkers had suggested the idea that I tutor as they knew my passion and excitement when teaching math so I did!
I have had 3 students over the past 2 years. 2 of my recent students were high school on their senior year trying to graduate and pass their exams and be prepared for college. One of them was struggling to even get passing grade in math and I am proud to say he did above what I could imagine and graduated with great pride. The subjects varied for the two high school students as one was intro to calculus while the other was 2 classes one was heavy with geometry and his second was college algebra level. The 3rd student I had was to prepare to go into the Air Force and to be ready to pass the mathematics portion of the exam.
The way I best prepared for these students was to obtain the relevant material from their text book, or exam, or website they use so I can take true material and prepare to help teach them. I am one who has patience to let them show their thoughts before I teach and correct. I enjoy trying to make the material 'relevant' as it makes it easy to remember the formulas and methods. I would say my biggest strength in tutoring is my commitment to the student and passion for the material as again this is a hobby and I genuinely enjoy doing it and have goals of pursuing becoming a math professor in a college level. When I tutor I typically recommend sessions stay around 2 hours as 1 hour is so short and goes so fast but 3 and beyond seems excessive and I haven't experienced much success but 2 hour sessions seem to be good for the student and worth the expense and time for them. She always asks how my precalculus class is going. She is willing to tutor me until we solve each problem, no matter what it takes. Mrs. Robyn is genuinely happy for me whenever I do good on tests/homeworks. She is always eager to know how I am doing and makes sure to remind me to get plenty of sleep. I am so thankful for her! She is always available late at night for my last minute "impossible" problems.
Robin was just what my daughter needed. My daughter plays softball and misses 6th period each day, which is her geometry class and she fell behind very quickly. She has a hard time learning like other kids although she is very smart. The patience and knowledge Robin has tutoring is breathtaking. Mekenna was able to catch up in 2 sessions and we will be using Robin weekly to make sure this stays this way!! We would give her 10 stars if we could.
I've learned so much from Mrs. Robyn! She makes you feel very comfortable, encourages you to ask questions and she makes it fun it's not all strict and up tight!
My 16 year old son reports that he feels significantly more confident going into his Algebra II final after a 2 hour review session with Robyn. He had clearly missed some foundational concepts in class and felt like Robyn helped him go back to the missing information so that he can move forward.
Robyn has help me tremendously in my intermediate algebra class! My brain just doesn't think math and Robyn has bent over backwards with having late night sessions on FaceTime and meeting up on Saturday afternoons to help me understand math. I can text her any time of day and she always responds. Robyn always asks how I'm doing, reminding me to review and also to sleep! She is definitely recommended!
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I am qualified in this subject for many reasons. Algebra is by far my strongest subject in math and the most enjoyable. I have the most experience in number of students I have tutored in this topic. I have had a great deal of success with all my students and their grades proved it! :)

I have had students from 2nd grade - 5th grade. I currently have a fourth grader of which I help in all subjects (my specialty being math). He has improved in his weekly spelling quizzes tremendously. When I started he was at a 56%, after 3 weeks his new grades have been 93%, and 2-100%'s. Again math ids my major from college, but my teaching skills can be used in various subjects as I am capable to tutor them all.
I am qualified in this subject for many reasons. This subject is the best of all math and the beginning of an uphill challenge, one of which I truly enjoy. I have had 2 previous students and now a current in this subject and have had great success. This course is a fun one to teach as it brings out some of the most challenging concepts for students. I am a good fit for this subject as it has parabolas, inequalities, beginning to calculus and limits, and my favorite part... factoring!
