About Shane

My education in Biomaterials Engineering allowed me to combine both the engineering sciences as well as the medical sciences to a higher level. I plan to continue my pursuit in Biomedical Engineering in the future, by working to develop orthopedic devices improving life quality all over the world under my own company. In my earlier years as an undergrad I was able to work with neurosurgeons in order to increase efficiency of surgical procedures removing tumors in the brain.

Continuing further into the medical field of engineering, I assisted in furthering research on Deep Brain Stimulation (DBS) for Parkinsons patients by investigating the displacement of the fixation device with the electrode after insertion into the brain. More recently, I’ve worked on a project developing a vestibular stimulation system correcting for balance issues in a patient with a rare neurological disorder as well as the development of other biomedical devices. I have also worked with physicians (Drs. Patrick Antonelli. Giuseppe Morelli, and Luciana Shaddox) on different clinical issues in order to engineer devices to improve current methods or devices. I also attended numerous clinical grand rounds for cancer research including those by Dr. C Parker Gibbs and the Wu Lab at the university, giving me extremely well rounded knowledge of current innovations and clinical issues.

Currently my research is focusing on the transfection of MNP into cellular DNA and will be published upon completion. I believe this combination of the engineering field and medical field experience I have gained will be important when pursuing my career as a biomedical engineer. This type of experience will help tutor, because the skills I've developed in both engineering problem solving and team work has and will help to efficiently and succinctly execute goals.

I have worked before tutoring with companies such as Brainfuse and also assisting other students and family friend requests for tutoring physics, etc.

I would be love to help you! I enjoy tutoring and working with students and watching them develop confidence and skills to succeed no matter what the obstacle!

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
