About Mitchell

I first started tutoring as a senior at my high school. Initially, it was a simple way to complete service hours, but over time it turned into an incredibly rewarding experience. During this time, I taught students of all levels in a large variety of math and science courses. Geometry, Algebra, Calculus, Physics, Chemistry, as well as Economics and History. In subsequent years as a student at the University of Florida I have tutored many different students through Wyzant. As a third year student seeking an engineering degree, I hope to continue working as a tutor for all levels of math and science.

In accordance with my Computer Engineering degree program, I have taken extensive courses in computer science and electrical engineering. These rigorous courses have given me a strong understanding of computer science and electrical engineering concepts. Initially, I found programming to be very challenging and I struggled with the material. Because learning programming did not come naturally to me, I feel I have a unique perspective that makes me a better tutor for programming. I have already faced many of the challenges and roadblocks that my students face in learning to read and write code.

My prior experience consists of tutoring during high school and the tutoring I have performed through Wyzant. In high school I attended bi-weekly meetings tutoring students in various subjects. I specialized in math and science. Students mostly worked with me for homework assistance and I taught many different students of greatly varying levels. As a Wyzant Tutor, I have tutored students of all grade levels in various Math and Science subjects.

As a tutor, my role focuses primarily on being a supplementary aid to courses that a student is already enrolled in. Weekly meetings serve as a valuable tool to give homework help, explain challenging lecture concepts, and give advice for studying and time management. As a supplementary asset to coursework, I want to work on the particular concepts and problems that my students are currently working on with their teachers and professors. As such, it is important that I receive advance notification of the topics that my students are studying. I prefer to know as soon as possible, so I can be prepared with my own handouts and notes. Additional meetings can be scheduled for exam preparation, or if a single meeting can not cover all material that a student needs help with.

I am driven by results, and my lessons improve my student's scores on their course material. This demonstrates my ability to impart a deeper understanding of the material to my students and that is the main objective. If for some reason it is felt that I have not succeeded in that goal, feedback is greatly appreciated. I am absolutely willing to alter my methods so they are the best possible fit for all of my students. I will not bill for a lesson if the student or parent is not satisfied with my performance.

I am willing to be highly flexible with scheduling as well as meeting location. I am often available on weekends as well as after regular school hours during the week. As I live on the University of Florida campus. It would be preferred to meet at a library or coffee shop somewhere in the surrounding area, or on campus. With proper notification, I can arrange to meet as far as 10 miles off campus.

I am excited to hear from you and aid in the success of your studies!

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
