Tutoring is considered a passion of mine. I have tutored students in the Alachua County area since 1997. My strong background in journalism has made me an exceptional tutor in the areas of reading, language arts, and writing. All of my students make remarkable improvements and at the end of the school term in percentage gains.
What I have enjoyed most about tutoring over the years is the relationship I build with students and their families. As a former Reading and Language Arts teacher in Alachua County, I identify the needs of my students very quickly. It gives me great joy in watching my students progress as learners. Ultimately, I look to make my students productive students of society after having sessions with me. Families will be greatly and pleasantly pleased with my process.
My strong background in Journalism and Communications makes me a good English tutor. Grammar, reading, and writing are my specific areas of focus including a basis for strong vocabulary as well.
Looking to see remarkable improvements in Reading and English overall? If your answer is yes, I encourage you to coordinate a time and date to meet with me to learn more about what I have to offer and how I can be of assistance to you and your family. I create a fun, safe learning environment for all students. I look forward to hearing from you soon.
My past certifications include middle-grades English 5-9 and Journalism 6-12. I have previously taught Advanced Language Arts, Intensive Reading and regular Reading at the secondary level. As recently as three years ago, I began to work at the elementary level offering instructional support to faculty and staff. Tutoring is considered a passion of mine. In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
My background in journalism and communications with a special emphasis in reporting makes me a suitable candidate to tutor in public speaking. Additionally, while completing my undergraduate work, I took several courses in public speaking. The classes emphasized impromptu speaking as well as prepared speeches. As a tutor of public speaking, my approach would be to rehearse various public speaking genres with the student. This way I can focus on strengths and help to develop the weak areas of the speaker's skills while expounding on his/her confidence.
