About Isabella

I used to tutor back in high school and discovered my love of teaching and helping students understand material better. Usually I tutored students in 3rd to 8th grade, but even went so far as to take charge in helping my AP Economics class learn the material due to the fact that our teacher (through no fault of her own) was unable to help. I lead 90% of the class to pass their tests and earn their college credit.

Now I am currently attending the University of Florida towards and English degree and afterwards I plan to get my Master's degree through the UF ProTeach program. Eventually I would like to be able to teach at a collegiate level, but until then I am planning on teaching high school. My subject of passion is English but I am also fond of writing. My drive and enthusiasm for teaching is founded in the knowledge that a good teacher can have a very positive impact and a lasting impression. I want to be able to provide the education that you, as a student, deserve.

I can primarily tutor in the evenings and even on weekends if that is needed!

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

ACT English

Scored a 29 composite on the ACT with my highest scores in the English categories. I've tutored my peers in ACT English as well in subject areas like sentence structure and grammar.

ACT Reading

Reading has been my strongest skill for my entire school career and in ACT Reading I scored very high. I have tutored peers and younger children in reading in order to get them to their expected reading level with a lot of success.

English

I am currently enrolled at the University of Florida in the English program and have always been very strong in English in all areas. I plan to become an English teacher once I get my Master's Degree in English Composition and Theory. I've always tutored in English because it is what I am best at, and my students always grasp and learn to appreciate the subject just as I do.

Grammar

Grammar goes hand in hand with writing which is something that I do often. I have a grammar book that I read through and take notes from in order to keep my skills fresh. Grammar is what I have tutored to younger students, specifically 4th-8th grade. Everyone I tutor has a complete turn around and once I work with them they understand the rudimentary elements of grammar as well as some of the more difficult aspects.

Literature

Literature is a passion of mine and I'm currently writing a series of short stories in hopes of getting them published! I have read through almost every single list of recommended classic books and have an extensive library and comprehension of almost every era of writing. I have always had an appreciation of literature especially when it comes to themes, symbolism, and overall construction of a novel.

Proofreading

Proofreading has always been something that I've done, for friends and even family. I have friends currently enrolled at several Universities that all email me their essays, resume applications, and other papers to edit and read over. They trust my judgement and I always do a very thorough job and will take as long as is needed to help make an essay as good as it can be.

Reading

Reading is a passion of mine whether it be from short stories to full length novels. Of any genre, of any author, I will always give a book a chance especially if it is recommended to me. I want to instill this passion in my students that I tutor because I know how difficult it can be to consume written material if you don't know how to do it properly. I want to make sure that my students not only read quickly, but read with a higher level of comprehension and appreciation.

SAT Reading

SAT Reading was my strongest category when I took the SAT. I took it once and managed to score very high within the category. Again, Reading has always come very easy to me as well as reading comprehension. I know how the reading portion of the SAT is formatted and I know the types of tricky questions they will ask so I plan on making sure that the students that I tutor also have a very thorough understanding.

Vocabulary

As much as I love writing and reading, I have grown to have an appreciation for vocabulary. Within my major at the University of Florida I'm required to write several dozen essays a semester that call for a higher vocabulary in order to resonate with the reader that I am highly educated and know how to write a concise and clear paper. I also understand that sometimes using a thesaurus doesn't always get you the best result! I have several memorizing techniques in order to help expand students' vocabulary, as well as a word of the day resource that can assist in building up an impressive repertoire of advanced words.

Writing

Writing is one of my strongest skills. In both the SAT and ACT, my highest scores were in the writing portions. I have the ability to churn out full five paragraph essays within an hour and know the outs and ins of writing every single kind of essay. I'm in school to become an English Composition teacher, which is basically and essay writing teacher! From persuasive to expository, I know the tips and tricks to make writing not only interesting but fun to do.
