University of Florida (Psychology, Pre-Med)
I have five years formal tutoring experience in dozens of subjects with students of many skill levels, including special needs and ADD/ADHD students K-8. I'm comfortable tutoring any subject. High school and above I need a little more information on a students specific needs, so I can guarantee the best service possible. I'm very patient and try to keep things fun; I know what it was like to be the kind of student who absolutely hated things like math (though that's one of the subjects I now tutor the most often). I firmly believe that anyone can improve their skills with work and proper guidance.
More about me:
My degree is in psychology, and I'm pre-med, but taking some time off before heading off to med school. I was a University of Florida Honors College student and a National Merit Scholar and International Baccalaureate Diploma recipient. In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I'm naturally a pretty shy person, but I've learned how to conquer my social anxieties and command a room when the situation demands it. In my professional life I've taught classes day to day and given presentations to eighty or more people.
I took classes in public speaking while at University and passed with excellent (A) grades for all my presentations as well as my final evaluation. In addition, I've competed in a national talent competition and took first place in all my performing categories (Monology, Cold Read Scene Study, and Improvisation), all of which involved speaking in front of a crowd.
Public speaking can be a daunting task, but life frequently contains such demands and anyone can learn to steady their nerves and build their confidence. Regardless of age or what you are discussing, I can help foster that confidence in you or help you proofread and polish the content of that speech to perfection.
As a college graduate and IB diploma holder before that, I've always had a heavy courseload. I've studied for and taken nearly every standardized test out there. This includes FCAT, PSAT, SAT, ACT, AP exams, and IB exams, and passed all with flying colors. I know all about taking good notes that will make for great study tools later, working in a timely fashion, and juggling multiple workloads. As a teacher/tutor, I know people have different learning styles and work hard to find approaches that work best for each individual student.
