Hello, my name is Kevin, and I have 5+ years of teaching experience. I graduated from the University of Florida with a degree in Mathematics and a minor in UFTeach - Mathematics, which was a program specialized in training future secondary STEM teachers. After graduating, I taught Algebra 1A and Algebra 1 Honors at West Port High School for five years. For two of those years, I was the head of the Algebra team, where I developed common assessments and shared effective teaching techniques with my peers. I left West Port to pursue tutoring so that I could reach students more effectively through individualized teaching methods.
When teaching or tutoring students in math, I believe in a guided approach, where I facilitate the student's learning without giving away the answer. I will ask them questions to determine their knowledge level, and then use this information to teach and guide them towards the level they need to achieve to answer the question/understand the concept. It is vital that the student can reach the answer on their own so that they can perform well on assignments and assessments while I'm not there to assist them.
I promise that, if a student is willing to learn and put in the work, that we can work together to strengthen the student's knowledge and give them the tools necessary to succeed in their current and future math courses.
