I am a graduate of Minnesota State University – Mankato. I received my Bachelor of Science in Mathematics and a second Bachelor of Science in Computer Science (Programming). I minored in Education. I received my Master of Science in Mathematics / Computer Science. I also have a Master of Divinity degree, earned at Asbury Theological Seminary. I was an Associate Professor of Mathematics for 33 years (the first 10 years I also taught Computer Programming.) Since retirement, I am an adjunct Mathematics and World Religions instructor, currently at two colleges, but I am in the application process for a third one. I do ancillary work (tests, exercises, videos, etc.) for various textbook companies.
While I tutor a wide variety of mathematics courses, I am most passionate about Trigonometry, Calculus, and Statistics. However, so many students would be better at these courses if they had better Algebra skills. Thus, I have a passion for Algebra. My passion is also for Common Core. In my experience helping struggling students, I find it productive to speak the language of mathematics (terms, factors, operators, etc.) and why we do what we do. I worked in the Mathematics Lab while a student in college and discovered that it was important to keep trying different approaches until the student “got it”. This has impacted my teaching all these years! I understand that many students do not like math, whereas I love it. I can handle that! In my spare time, I enjoy running, softball, any sport, playing the piano, reading, cooking, and playing with my 2-year-old granddaughter.
I have been teaching college-level mathematics full time at Indian River State College (Florida) since 1983, and as an adjunct since 2016 (Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University - Worldwide and Indian River State College). I write for Middle School and High School Common Core textbooks. I have taught Mathematics Education courses to future Middle and High School teachers.
I am available to tutor online (at various hours). As an online professor, I am online most of the time, so I give quick responses. Feel free to contact me with questions or to schedule a session.
Patient, understanding, and knows what she's doing
Deanna has been the only tutor so far that has understood every one of my homework questions from my statistics class. My book for this class is strange but Deanna knew how to do every problem and walked me through step by step multiple times. Previous tutors have gotten annoyed with how slow I am, (I am severely slow and mathematically challenged), but Deanna did not once get upset or annoyed no matter how many times I asked her to go over a process. T scores and hypothesis testing can be difficult concepts to grasp but Deanna has helped me better understand how to work through each type of problem and also explained why certain things are done. If you are looking for a kind, patient, and knowledgeable tutor especially if you struggle with math, I cannot recommend Deanna enough.Skyela, 2 lessons with Deanna
Very knowledgeable and caring.
I needed help with a statistics class that I could not grasp. Deanna helped me ground myself and gave much-needed insight and clarity on concepts to better attain my goal. Deanna is very caring, personable, and was able to answer "off the cuff" to all of my inquiries. I highly recommend Deanna.GEORGE, 1 lesson with Deanna

My daughter rarely laughs or smiles during math, but does so with Deanna.
I was sitting in the living room listening to my daughter having a good time as she was covering algebra with Deanna. I know how important it is for her to have a good connection with her teachers and Deanna has managed to make a connection very quickly.David, 5 lessons with Deanna
Deanna is very patient and helps students understand where they missed a step and how to complete the problems. She makes math relatable. We are very thankful for her help!Heather, 30 lessons with Deanna
