It is with great pleasure that I assist with the learning needs of students in the physical sciences. I come highly certified in the field of chemistry with experience teaching subjects such as conceptual physics, physics, physical science, integrated science and earth science for 18 years in k-12 education. My teaching experience expands throughout the Dade, Broward, Palm Beach and St. Lucie counties in Florida and presently in Bibb County in Macon, Georgia. I've also had the opportunity to work as an adjunct professor in adult education with the Indian River State College in Port St. Lucie, Florida, a chemistry lab assistant with the Miami Dade Community College (MDCC) and an intern for the National Institutes of Health (NIH) in Bethesda, Maryland. My experience as a lead tutor with Hungtington Learning center will greatly benefit students given my expertise.
The lives of many students have been greatly affected due to my passion for teaching and challenging them to be successful. I have used many innovative teaching strategies to engage students in the learning process as well as to increase student achievement. As a result, I was nominated for the Minority Teacher of the Year (MTOY)award. Technology tools such as Sophia, glogster.edu, Timetoast.com, Schooltube.com, Youtube.com, audio and video podcasts have helped to give students the confidence needed to excel in the advanced sciences. Students participate in virtual labs, video lectures and also, review games and activities. To further assist students, I have experience using email, Skype, Google Docs, SkyDrive, WebEx, GoTo Meeting and screen sharing.
I am able to assist with tutoring via the computer or "face to face". My tutoring methods involve analyzing past assessments in an effort to identify deficiencies in student learning. I provide students with manipulatives and hands-on activities to give them practice with specific concepts. I employ the use of powerpoints as a visual to reinforce "hard to learn" concepts. Rubrics are also used to help self-assess students as they track their learning progress. To ensure student and overall organizational success, my services include a monthly communication via email, telephone, Skype or face to face. It is with great pleasure that I assist with the learning needs of students in the physical sciences. I come highly certified in the field of chemistry with experience teaching subjects such as conceptual physics, physics,

Ms. Bonnie was able to take a complicated subject like science and make it fun and less mysterious for my son and also for me. Thank you.
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
Students are required to take Algebra in order to be successful in chemistry. I have had the opportunity to work with the math department at my high school to ensure that the algebra students are well prepared before advancing on to chemistry as the next required science. The math department was provided with a list of math skills that students needed to show that they were proficient in those skills. I was able to work closely with those students needing assistance in tutoring sessions after school. The sessions were usually conducted in a group or as individual.
While at Bethune Cookman University I recieved my undergraduate degree in Chemistry. I also had the opportunity to work in an organic chemistry lab doing research with flouroquinolone compounds. Once I graduated I went on to intern at the National Institutes of Health (NIH) in Bethesda, Maryland during the summer. During my first year of teaching, I worked as a chemistry lab assistant at Miami Dade Community College (MDCC). My teaching chemistry has continued for 18 years and I am still presently teaching.
As a Bethune Cookman University requirement, I had to pass the CLAST in order to recieve my degree. I graduated with a Bachelors of Science degree in Chemistry. I also passed the CLAST with the following scores back in 1991: Math- 310, Reading- 298, ELS- 297, Essay- 6.
As a chemistry major, I had to take several math courses. Differential equations was one that I took my senior year of college. I received a "B" in the course. Furthermore, as an adjunct professor at Indian River State College, I taught differential equations, algebra 1 and 2 as well as finite math to students in the college's adult high school.
Throughout my teaching career, I have assisted elementary grade teachers with the preparation of lessons and activities for grades pre-K through middle school students. This was part of an effort to ensure that students from the feeder schools were taught and they learned the skills required to be successful at the middle and secondary levels. Also, as a teacher with the Huntington Learning Center, I taught several elementary school aged students math and reading skills as well as scientific concepts.
I have volunteered as a tutor in the education ministry at my church. I have assisted elementary grade teachers with the preparation of lessons and activities for grades pre-K through middle school students. Furthermore, I have been very instrumental in assisting 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 6th, 7th and 8th grade students with science fair projects. They have gone on to receive very high recognition at both the school and district level.
While at Bethune Cookman University, I received my undergraduate degree in Chemistry and worked in the Organic Chemistry Lab doing research under the supervision of Dr. Richardson. My thesis centered around improving the affects of fluoroquinolone compounds. During the summer after graduation, I interned at the National Institutes of Health (NIH) in Bethesda, Maryland doing diabetes research. I have taught general chemistry which includes organic chemistry for 18 years and I am still presently teaching.
As a teacher with the Huntington Learning Center, I assisted many elementary aged students with skills in phonics. I exposed them to various strategies to build their phonics skills such as "onset and meaning", "sounding out words via elongation" and "voice print matching" as well as many others. These strategies were utilized in lessons with the objective to learn consonants, blends, short and long vowels, just to name a few.
I have experience teaching physical science to 9th grade for 10 years. This subject involves chemistry and basic conceptual physics of which I also have taught. I have also taught physical science as an adjunct professor at the Indian River State College in adult education.
As an educator for over 18 years, I have assisted many students with research papers for science fair. I have used MLA format with middle school students and APA format with high school students. I have also assisted PhD students with reviewing their papers when submitted to the writing lab. I have checked for quotes from educational sources and in text citations for those quotes throughout their paper as well as the references. One of the sources I always refer to is the Purdue OWL site.
