Hello I'm Terrence!

I received a 4.0 GPA and a Math Education degree from the U. of Kentucky in 2009. I scored a perfect 800 on the Math portion of the GRE, worked as a Teacher's Assistant (TA) for Calculus I, and received the Kentucky Mathematician of the year award in 2008. (I am the sharpest spoon!) I also passed the first Actuary Exam (Probability).

From 2007 to '11, I owned and operated my own tutoring business full-time. I regularly tutored a wide variety of students, ranging from elementary schoolers to upperclassmen Engineering majors to personalized test prep (ACT, SAT, GRE).

I started tutoring online in 2015 (discovered Wyzant in October 2017), and I am genuinely obsessed. I believe online tutoring beats in-person because it forces the student to 'hold the pencil'. In person, it is too easy for the tutor to write everything while the student nods and (hopefully) learns.

My love for teaching/Math is genetic (Mother is retired Elementary teacher, Father is retired Math/Physics teacher, his Mother was a teacher/librarian), but it was accelerated when my loving parents arranged 1:1 advanced tutoring for me starting in first grade.

Because of my vast experience learning and teaching, I'm very confident I can help ANYONE quickly gain a MUCH better understanding of their Math material.

A little about my life outside tutoring:

From 2011-'15, I worked in the solar energy industry (sales, project management, customer service). Although I love and respect the power of the Sun, I REALLY missed tutoring. Sales can be a dog-eat-dog world, and I don't enjoy eating dogs!

I'm extremely grateful to be tutoring again, and these 4 years provided me invaluable experience as a listener. (My wife, Lizzie, may disagree.)

Because of this, I'm also confident in my ability to relate to each student. I truly believe I can help ANY student UNDERSTAND Math WHILE having fun!

Statistics

Statistics is my favorite Math class. While many people complain about "never needing to know this stuff in the real world", Statistics is used everyday in all walks of life. I truly enjoy helping others with AP Statistics, and I've tutored over 20 students in AP Stats.

Algebra 1,

Algebra 1

I dream of Algebra, and it is part of everyone's everyday life. It brings me joy to help anyone understand Algebra better. I have tutored 15 Algebra students (5 online).
Algebra 2,

Algebra 2

I taught myself Algebra 2 the summer after my freshman year of high school. Algebra is used throughout life. (Especially in all future Math classes.)
Calculus,

Calculus

I have tutored Calculus for over 500 hours! I was a Teacher's Assistant for Calculus I at UK, where I led 20 person recitations for 2 years. I have tutored over 40 students in Calculus, including Engineering majors in Calculus I, II, and III. I earned an A+ in Calculus I, II, III, and IV, which led me to be named the Kentucky Mathematician of the year for 2008. If you can't tell already, I absolutely love Calculus, and I love helping others UNDERSTAND Calculus.
Precalculus,

I took Honors Pre-Calculus my sophomore year, after teaching myself Algebra II in the previous summer. In college, I took Calculus I, II, III, and IV. I have tutored over 10 students (four online) in Pre-Calculus.

Very good. He explains the math well and he’s bery engaging.

Algebra 1. He really does a good job to help the student get a real world understanding of the math. He’s funny and has a fresh and young attitude towards math. I think my son will ultimately open up and become much more eager to engage him. This was our first lesson so my student was a bit shy and awkward.

Calm and helpful tutor, great at explaining

Terrence has succeeded in teaching me concepts and problem solving skills for every lesson we’ve had. Whenever I don’t understand something, he is able to walk me through it and get me to the solution with ease. I’ve learned so much about SAT math and math skills in general from him. I’d recommend him as an SAT guide and math tutor for anyone. Jonathan

Knowledgeable and patient tutor

Terrence was an excellent online tutor. I had never used online tutoring before, but he got back to us within 45 minutes to schedule a session for the same evening. The instruction was top notch and my son left with a clear understanding of the topic. I will definitely schedule more Geometry tutoring with Terrence in the future.

Extremely knowledgeable

Terrence provided clarification in multiple areas that my son struggled with in precalcus. He said that Terrence was patient, encouraging, and pleasant to work with! I highly recommend Terrence!

Professional and Great Approach

Very happy with first session. My daughter felt this was very helpful before her first test and we appreciate the last minute scheduling very much. Hope my daughter will continue to use this great source of support during the term.

Amazing Tutor!

Had my first lesson with Terrence today and it went really well. I had a couple questions about my statistics material and Terrence answered all my questions through examples and talking through what I had trouble with. Terrence explained everything with extreme clarity. Can't wait to have another lesson with Terrence!! You should definitely schedule a lesson with Terrence if you need help with any Stats.

Astute and thorough tutor

Terrence and I jumped right into the practice problems I was having trouble understanding. In the short period of time we reviewed, he helped me recognize a similar error/pattern of mistakes I was making across problems. Thanks for the help!

Excellent teacher and very friendly.

He was very helpful with me and patient. Even when I was being lazy and didn't review anything beforehand and made it accidentally harder for him to teach me, he still was willing to guide me through it.

Great tutor

The first two problems were the same. On the first problem he showed me the long way and made sure I understood the theory behind it. First problem took 30 minutes. The second problem took 5 minutes. Not only did he teach me the method on how to do the problem but he also taught me to be more efficient with my time. Can't wait to get to my next sessions with him. He does a great job at explaining the concepts and writing down useful equations for me.

Patient, friendly, math expert!

Terrence took the time to ensure that my son grasped each problem and encouraged him to think through each step rather than spoon feeding the answers. Terrence is truly a math expert!
