About Jill

Hi, my name is Jill.

I focused on Chemistry and Math in high school (although competent in all subjects) and finished in a tie for top of my class. I then proceeded to Westminster College with a scholarship in Chemistry and Basketball. While enjoying basketball, I excelled in Chemistry and finished my degree in 3 years, while minoring in Biology. I then became a devoted student at the University of Pittsburgh School of Pharmacy, where I completed my BS in Pharmacy in 4 years. This education required the completion of mathematics up to and including Calculus II. After studying and passing my boards, I was eager to practice in my new field of Pharmacy. I practiced in the clinical setting for 5 years then dove back into more studies to complete my Doctor of Pharmacy. I enjoyed many years of practice then decided to go back to school for yet more education, this time in music, especially voice and piano.

Throughout my entire career, mainly involving management, I have trained hundreds of staff members. I have mentored and developed these people via education, example and encouragement (the 3Es). I am passionate about developing skills and seeing light bulbs flash as people become excited as they understand a new skill. My goal in teaching has always been to share everything I know, relevant to the current position/topic of course, and watch the student emerge and become fully equipped with the necessary knowledge. I want them to be able to succeed and I realize that they are a resemblance of my influence and reputation. Education is more important now than ever, and I desire to help in any way I can to achieve this goal. I am patient, compassionate, and also assertive as I truly seek to help develop an understanding of important material to help people succeed. The more you know, the more we grow:)

Math has been an integral subject in all of my studies, from High School through my Doctor of Pharmacy. I began Algebra in elementary school and had an early understanding of it. I completed through Calculus II. Math to me is common sense and there is a definite answer, although sometimes a few different ways to achieve it. I use math daily in my clinical and kinetics calculations. It is relevant to many aspects of simple daily life.

Chemistry has always come easy for me and I took a strong interest in it since High School, even after the acid-burning incident in lab...:) I continued Chemistry as a Major in college and for a second time, had an acid-burning incident in the lab (to which 3 new tiles stand out to this day!) Along with the errors, my knowledge was solidified and so much education was obtained. I had the opportunity to become involved with many aspects of Chemistry, including Analytical, Physical and Organic. It is an amazing field and I truly love all aspects of it and feel very qualified to share the knowledge and desire I have attained.

I continued into Pharmacy and earned my BS, then continued on to earn a Doctor of Pharmacy. Pharmacology has been a part of my daily practice for over a decade. I enjoy the Science/Healthcare field and love to share my knowledge of it.

Thank you for taking time to review my profile. I enjoy educating others and sharing knowledge I feel privileged to have gained. I believe education should be fun and I do believe it is a privilege not only to have the opportunity to be educated, but also to be an educator and share this knowledge with others. I am aware everyone learns in different ways and at differing abilities. With the variety of people I have been honored to mentor, I feel I am competent in sharing knowledge in many different ways to capture many different audiences. I would consider it a privilege to be a part of your journey. Thank you.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
