Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Bible Studies

I currently possess a Master of Arts degree in Theology from St. Thomas Aquinas University in Rome, Italy in 1983. I also have significant experience as a theology mentor facilitating the ordination of new priests in the US Old Catholic Church.

Career Development

I have tutored several adult learners in the creation of effective and attractive resumes that capture the interest of potential employers. Additionally, I have conducted several workshops for adolescents and adults in proper interview techniques that convey a person's best image and personality. These sessions have resulted in successful employment offers as well as added to the portfolios of college applicants.

CBEST

I successfully completed the CBEST exam in 2002. My subject matter proficiency includes all of the CBEST testing areas. My prominent areas of expertise lie in English writing, grammar, spelling, reading, college algebra, and social science. Additionally, my teaching credential is the area of social science for K-12 and adult learners.

College Counseling

At Fairmont Prep Academy, a for-profit, WASC-accredited high school with 690 students in Anaheim, CA, I have directed the academic/college counseling center for three years. Our counselors offer one-on-one assistance to each and every student who is preparing for college studies. I am extremely familiar with the college application process including the creation of the college essay.

English

I possess 10 years of classroom teaching/coaching in grades 5-12 within English, Latin, and Communication Studies departments. I have a strong classical background in Latin/Greek and have assisted many of my students with college entrance essays and other assignments.

GED

I am a highly proficient educator who has tutored students with the GED exam. I possess a doctoral degree in education.

Grammar

I possess extensive experience in teaching English grammar and Latin to middle and high school students as well as adults. The close connection between Latin rules and English grammar rules helps with this teaching. Additionally, I have recently completed the writing of a 150+ page dissertation, according to APA format, which involves significant attention to detail and knowledge of English grammar principles.

Latin

Specialized Diploma in Latin Literature in 1982 from the Gregorian University in Rome, Italy. I was taught by Reginald Foster, then the acting Latinist for the Pope. I am very fluent in Latin and am happy to assist anyone who is interested in learning this rich language.

Proofreading

I recently completed a 150+ page doctoral dissertation with proofreading included; additionally, I am often designated by my organization as the company proofreader through whom all documents must pass before being distributed to the public. I have a keen eye for grammar details and am well educated in Latin and English grammar for 25+ years.

Public Speaking

As a multi-dimensional, hands-on campus leader, my love affair within the world of education includes 26 years of competitive and instructional experiences in both secondary and postsecondary school environments, e.g., Fairmont Prep Academy, The Harker School, Pasadena City College, and the University of LaVerne within competitive speech and debate venues. My background includes third place national awards in policy debate and extemporaneous speaking. The National Forensic League has also awarded me a third diamond for excellence in high school speech coaching and an advanced professional forensic educator certification.

Study Skills

I possess extensive experience in facilitating successful study skills acquisition for middle and high school students as well as adults returning to education. Additionally, I have taught Life Skills program, initiated by the UCLA PEERS program, to students with high functioning autism as a means of acquiring basic study skills. In proprietary educational schools, I have taught Strategies for Success, a first course for adult learners returning to education after a hiatus of several years.
