About Andres

Hello all! My name is Andres and I live in Ft Lauderdale, Florida, where I am finishing my Bachelor’s Degree in Management and Supervision from Broward College. I have extensive experience in business courses ranging from economics, to accounting, to finance. Years of corporate experience has also given me real-world applications to business concepts. I previously studied at the University of Florida, where I majored in Mechanical Engineering. This gave me a solid background in mathematics and physics, two subjects I enjoy deeply.

I believe what makes me an effective tutor is my empathetic ability to pinpoint where in the student mind’s there is a block in understanding the material. I then create an alternative way to present the material so that the student can make a fundamental connection. Planning is key to studying material in a timely fashion. While setting a schedule is important to staying on track, I am open to change availability as needed. My background in engineering and inventory management have trained me to have a keen eye for details and to effectively problem-solve, so rest assured that if there is a mistake in your work, we will find and solve it together! Looking forward to working with you!

During my mechanical engineering career, I’ve studied mathematics courses ranging from calculus to differential equations to linear algebra. In each course, I excelled and even led study groups with fellow classmates. I believe the best way to excel in a mathematics course is to complete a variety of problems because generally speaking, incorrect answers usually can be traced back to a simple error in arithmetic rather than complete misunderstanding of a concept.

Physics was what initially got me interested in the hard sciences. I believe understanding physics problems boils down to utilizing the right equations and understanding the relationships between the different governing physics laws. As a student, I’ve studied statics, dynamics, thermodynamics, mechanics of materials, and heat transfer.

I first studied Economics at the University of Florida for three years, where I took Introductory and Advance courses in both Microeconomics and Macroeconomics, and later studied Managerial Economics at Santa Fe College. I believe my strong foundation in mathematics is what allows me to understand and explain difficult economic concepts. My experience in corporate management also provides real-world examples for students.

You'll find what sets me apart is my genuine care for my student's success in their endeavors. It's not uncommon for me to proactively study a new area if a student needs aid with it. To that end, please contact me If you have any questions at all about what courses I cover or would like to know my availability, Let's work together towards your success!

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Economics

I was an Economics Major at the University of Florida from 2009-2011, earning a 3.94 GPA in my studies of Introductory and Intermediate Microeconomics and Macroeconomics. I also completed Managerial Economics with an A this past Fall of 2016 at Sante Fe College. During my time as an economics student, I regularly tutored individuals and groups who were in my class and genuinely enjoy the subject.

Elementary Math

I was a Mechanical Engineering student at the University of Florida from 2011-2014, earning a 3.5 GPA. The mathematical curriculum included as high-level classes as Linear Algebra and Differential Equations. While passing these courses, I regularly tutored my classmates, individually or in groups, which I greatly enjoyed, In order to excel at these classes, a strong and fundamental understanding of Elementary Math is a requisite.

Financial Accounting

As a business student in various universities, I have taken three separate courses covering Financial Accounting and regularly review new material. I currently am the tutor at the Broward College Tutoring Lab in Accounting 1 & 2. Years of corporate experience in various leadership roles have also provided for real-world examples of the abstract material taught in these courses.
