About Scott

My major in college was Psychology with a minor in Sociology; however, I was most successful in my writing intensive courses. As a non traditional student (having returned to school after 17 years), I was required to take a remedial writing class (as is required of all returning students), during which time I enjoyed continuous accolades from my instructor including "What are you doing here? You could teach this class." From then on, I found myself being asked by various classmates to help them with their writing, which I gladly did with much success. My writing was so appreciated by my English Composition instructor that she wrote a giant red A on my final paper the minute I turned it in, and with a smile, she said "I don't even need to read it." The same instructor asked me an important question..."What are you going to do with this?" One of the primary reasons a brilliant mind may go unrecognized or unappreciated in academics, or otherwise, is a deficiency in writing. Tutoring others who may be struggling with writing, may be preparing an important paper, may need intensive help with editing, or merely wish to improve their writing skills is a powerful and rewarding experience for both of us.

My approach to tutoring is to provide an environment that is comfortable, fun, informative and dynamic. My goal is to inspire the individual in a way that makes them feel excited about the wonderful method of self expression and transmission of information known as writing. I believe a person who develops strong writing skills opens up a world of opportunity for him/herself that would have never existed otherwise. I will bring my experience of working with people of all ages and backgrounds to the learning experience, and tailor each session to the unique personality, style of expression, and specific needs of each student. Whether my student is in elementary school or graduate school, I can help them reach their full writing potential.

I have experience and success in English Composition, Creative Writing, Research Papers, Essays, and writing intensive coursework. I can provide intensive assistance in research, composition, and editing of any writing assignment. I can provide essential knowledge and development of skills needed for continued success in writing.

I am available for tutoring between 9 AM and 6 PM, Monday through Friday. I can provide services face-to-face or online.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
