About Gianni

My primary goal when it comes to tutoring is to provide a professional, college level experience for all of my students. I lead by example with an energy for excellence in all of my studies and that is what I try to instill into my pupils. Every student learns in a different way and I like to spend the first 10-15 min getting to know the student and what their strengths and weaknesses are. This way, each lesson plan is tailor-made to the student to best suit their needs. My major areas of expertise are in Criminal Justice, Research Studies and the Research Process, Film Analysis, and Basic Computing Skills. I graduated magna cum laude from Norwich University, the oldest private military university in the United States, with a bachelor's in Criminal Justice. During my junior and senior years of college, I conducted my own undergraduate research on terrorism in film which was then presented at the 2014 American Criminal Justice Society conference in Philadelphia, PA and the 2014 National Conference for Undergraduate Research in Lexington, KY. Feel free to ask me more about my research and how I conducted the process.

In addition to my academic abilities, I also hold a 2nd degree black belt in Martial Arts. I was an instructor for over 3 years and continue to help at my father's dojo when I am needed. I am proficient in muay thai, weapons training, basic self defense, kempo, sparring, and conditioning. Overall, the training the martial arts provides me with an outlet when studying for tests or working on homework becomes too much. I am a firm believer in the idea that one must balance academics with athletics or personal hobbies. By merging the two together, students tend to want to learn more often rather than dread the experience.

Personally, tutoring had a major impact in my grades and college success. My one on one sessions with my professors who mentored me throughout my college career started me on my current career path. I'm in the process of applying to schools all around to globe to achieve my Master's in Criminal Justice/Terrorism Studies and to one day become a professor at a university. To me, tutoring helps me hone my teaching skills. I'm constantly striving to learn new methods of teaching that engage my students and help them retain their knowledge easier. I hope that, given the chance, I will be able to instill the same outlook onto my potential students.

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Criminal Justice

Graduated Magna Cum Laude from Norwich University with a BA in Criminal Justice. My courses ranged from broad classes such as "Policing" and "Corrections" to specific subjects like "Criminal Justice Administration" and "Terrorism." Norwich University is the oldest private military college in the United States and has graduates in all major fields of the Criminal Justice Sector.

Film

My primary focus in my research during my junior and senior years of college focused on Terrorism in Film. I analyzed the framing, impact, and popularity of the film to gauge public perception. My primary skills in tutoring for film is in analysis and study of it rather than the actual filming process.

Literature

Along with taking AP literature during high school, I took multiple literature courses throughout college. In addition, my research in criminal justice helped hone my abilities in analyzing literature to find the meaning that the author is trying to convey. My research involved both fiction and non-fiction novels so I had a wide variety of material to study. Along side this information, my research focused on the study of film , which in my mind is another form of literature. Finally, I am an avid reader of all forms of literature

Martial Arts

I am a second degree black belt in muay thai. My father runs a dojo out of Plantation, FL where I have occasionally helped teach classes. Before going to college, I regularly taught classes for ages ranging from 6 years old to 65 years old.

Microsoft Excel

I am a college graduate working on my masters in criminal justice. During college, my undergraduate research revolved around a database I built using excel

Public Speaking

I have taught classes to groups of all ages in a variety of subjects ranging from martial arts to test taking. I've also presented my own research at multiple conferences with many variations of attendee's. Through practice and repetition, I have been able to convey my ideas clearly and successfully.

Reading

I am a college graduate working on my master's with the intent to teach as a professor soon.

SAT Reading

I scored in the top 15 percentile in both the ACT and the SAT.
