Hello, my name Heidi B. I'm currently a student at Cappella University study for my Master's in Psychology Counseling; I have a Bachelor's degree in Education with a minor in Psychology and I volunteer at the local elementary school. For the past ten years, I have tutored elementary students in the after school program the following subjects: English, all writing courses, spelling, math, reading, social studies, science and homework help. I can tutor any age or grade level but my experience has been mostly with elementary and middle school. My goal is not to just tutor for that one session but for my students to be able to take that knowledge further with him or her.
My experience with tutoring is more of finding out how that student learns first and the tutor in a means that he or she can understand and relate too. Therefore, I focus on his or her learning style. For instance, if my student is a visual person I would let them see what I am trying to get across. If he or she is a more audio learner I would explain the concept as clearly as possible. Basically, in my tutoring sessions, my method would be to make my lesson exciting and enjoyable. I would try not to preach but interact with my students. I would emphasis all the learning techniques whereas the student would be more formula and understand the uniqueness of learning the different ways and methods. Foremost, I would make my teaching methods fun where my student would want to participate and learn. I try to change my student mind-set on learning. Lastly, I would always give my student numerous practice to a complete understanding. This means what he or she needs to know, will understand, then be able to do. Hello, my name Heidi B. I have taught and tutor Algebra 1 for 10 plus years. In my tutoring experience I have taught in a way that my student can understand and relate to. I normally start with acquiring where that student is in Algebra 1; refresh on the rules and concept. Most of my tutoring is hands-one. I base my accomplishment on what my student know “facts; what they understand “principles”; and what they would be able to do “skill” (Know. Understand. Do).

My philosophy is to give the younger minds the view that learning should not be considered a chore but a task or an accomplishment that is fun and enjoyable, which he and she can carry with them pass any class environment.
My experience tutoring has been very enjoyable and rewarding. For instance, I make it fun to learn and my students make the grade. I like to first find out my student's learning style. Then I would give my student an assessment to establish what he or she knows, what they need to know, and what they should be able do. I would give them some rules or tricks that way he or she can remember the concept, then we go from there. My task is to guide them, explain, and allow them to understand and learn. I believe that students learn, understand, and remember just by "doing" and not just watching or listening.
I have been a tutor for more than 10 years. I graduated with honors from Ashford University with a Bachelor degree in Education and a minor in Psychology. I am available the days that you requested. I am also patient and I will make the learning experience enjoyable. I have coach student in writing a great paper. I make sure that student’s paper is logically organized with a well-written introduction, thesis statement, and conclusion. I also teach APA and MLA format, how to research their subject matter, watch out for plagiarism, and how to cite their information.
I have had the privilege of tutoring elementary students phonic for many years. I would start with a pre-assessment to determine the student’s knowledge. I would then have my students recite small words and slowly adding letter sounds until new words are created. Students are to listen carefully to the words I say or the words that are written. I will begin with some small words, just two or three letters. Students are figure out which part of the word has changed, the beginning or the end of the word.
The idea is to introduce as many new words, theirs meaning, spelling and being able to use in a sentence. I also work with students teaching he and she that anyone can learn to read if they understand that letters are learned by sounds and not its names. Where when reading with fluency he and she would have to develop the capability to decode and understand text in unison. Fluency consists of three factoring abilities or guide: decoding accuracy, unconscious decoding, and oral text prosody. Here I would teach my students to listen, recite, learn, spell and write more efficiently.
