About Deborah

I am a dedicated teacher with extensive experience in one-on-one learning. I taught for three years as an elementary and middle school classroom teacher in a private school. I homeschooled my own four children for 15 years. All of my children are currently in college. I have two years experience teaching needle crafts to both adults and children through Joann Fabric Stores. Additionally I have five years volunteer teaching experience for both adults and children. Three of my four children struggled with learning in different ways. I understand from personal experience the frustrations, stress, and anxieties of learning challenges.
At this point, my own children love to learn, love to read and have the confidence to explore and pursue their dreams.

I am patient, flexible, innovative and creative. I firmly believe that education is about critical thinking based on a strong foundation of reading, writing and mathematic sills. I am passionate about teaching reading, phonics, language arts and arithmetic. I am very relational with a strong ability to engage and connect with students. I believe that each individual is unique and I utilize various methods appropriate for different learning styles and personalities.

I posses a Masters Degree in Public Administration, and Bachelor of Arts Degree in a multi disciplinary field of Creative Arts. My strengths are in elementary language arts, reading, writing, phonics and math. I have a lot of knowledge and experience with visual and auditory processing, dysgraphia and attention issues.

I seek not only to teach, but to also encourage and come alongside students.
I hope to have the opportunity to work with your student and family.

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
