About Jeff

My top subjects are Accounting and Microsoft Excel, from beginner level to advanced. I also specialize in Finance, General Business and other computer applications. My standard rate is $50/hour and my rate for online sessions is $40/hour.

Are you a college student in need of help with your coursework?

Perhaps you are considering the most effective way to learn a new skill, in a manner flexible enough to accommodate your schedule.

Or, are you at a point in your career where you need to be able to read and analyze a balance sheet in order to advance to the next level?

If so, I'd be pleased to speak with you about how I may be able to help.

After earning my bachelor's degree in Accounting from Temple University in Philadelphia, I spent more than 10 years as a practicing CPA with a mid-sized, regional certified public accounting and consulting firm. Subsequent to that, I have been able to continually enhance my skills - in the roles of Controller and Chief Financial Officer - with private companies in a variety of industries.

I believe that growth - be it personal, professional, or economic - is an essential part of living a full life. For me, learning is one of the ways to realize this growth. Perhaps it's no surprise, then, that I am a huge fan of lifelong learning. Quite often, the best way to learn is to teach, which may explain - at least in part - why I am also committed to being a lifelong teacher.

And so, the better part of my professional career has been devoted to training, teaching, and coaching the fundamentals of accounting, finance and business principles, as well as the use of what is arguably one of the most powerful business tools available today - MS Excel - to work with these concepts.

I am located in Fort Lauderdale, FL. I can travel to meet students or meet them online. My standard rate is $65 per hour for in-person sessions and $45 per hour for online sessions.

Please feel free to contact me at your convenience. I am very much interested in hearing about your challenges.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Accounting

After graduating from Temple University in Philadelphia, PA with a BBA in Accounting, I worked for more than ten years with a regional certified public accounting (CPA) and consulting firm. During that time, I studied for - and passed - the state-administered CPA examination and received my CPA License.

Business

After receiving my bachelor of business administration in accounting from Temple University, I worked for more than ten years as a CPA with a mid-tier certified public accounting and consulting firm.

My background also includes more than ten years of experience - first as controller, then as chief financial officer - of a private education company, where I oversaw an annual budget of $60 million.

I founded and operated a home health care company, which provided services to senior adults. I ran all day-day-operations-including sales, marketing, and personnel- until the business was sold.

Most recently, I have been working as a strategic financial advisor, primarily for a prominent, community-based non-profit social services provider.

I have completed several components of the executive education program sponsored by the Harvard Business School, including "Strategic Finance."

Finance

I was initially exposed to modern finance theory during the course of my undergraduate studies. In practice, these theories are of monumental importance to those who practice finance and accounting. During my 25+ year professional career - as a CPA, controller, chief financial officer, principal and advisor, the basic principles of finance have been become indispensable.

My academic and hands-on experience with finance theory includes some of the following concepts: time value of money; bonds and interest rates; financial statements and ratio analysis; risk and return and the relationship between the two; stock and business valuation; capital budgeting; cost of capital and capital structure; and financial planning.

Microsoft Excel

I have been using Microsoft Excel in my capacity as a practicing CPA, Controller, and chief financial officer for more than 20 years. I have used numerous versions of the software, ranging from Excel 5 (1993) to the latest version, Excel 2016. I am proficient with all of the versions currently being used, including Excel '97-2003, 2007, 2010, 2013, and 2016.

One of the best tutors — This is my first time taking an accounting course and from the beginning of the course, I felt completely lost. Jeff has been so patient with me and I always leave confident after our sessions. I have another accounting course to take after this current course and Jeff will definitely continue to be my tutor. Thanks for the uplifting words and believing in me Jeff!! Would definitely recommend Jeff ...
