My name is Marcia and I am an experienced teacher and tutor. I have been teaching for more than 30 years and I love it. I was a GED teacher for three and a half years where I taught high school students. It was a very rewarding time, for I was able to help at-risk teens get a step up in life, even helping a few to go to college. I've also worked for two other tutoring companies and taught Art classes (Painting and Drawing)in a Community College for 14 years.
I am a very patient and kind people person. I'm also a mom and a grandmother, so I'm very used to children! My specialty is English Grammar and all that goes with it. I am also very good with Math up to Basic Algebra and Geometry. I enjoy World History, Geography, Science and Social Studies and can be very helpful to a student with those categories.
My philosophy of tutoring is to help the student help themselves. That means that I don't automatically give students an answer, but instead will guide them to the answer themselves, thereby strengthening their reasoning skills. If absolutely necessary, I will give them an answer, as I don't want to create undue anxiety. I hope to help in the development of intelligent, thinking individuals! Marcia helped me review FTCE test prep. Marcia was knowledgeable and patient. I like how Marcia was consistent and assigned homework to make sure I understood the information we covered.
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
During High School and 6 years of College, I was exposed to the Classics in my Literature classes. I have a very extensive knowledge of fine literature. This has transferred to my students in the GED classes I taught for 3 years. I attempted to instill a love of reading in them and to make them understand how important it was for,not only their pleasure, but for their success in seeking employment.I have been an avid reader all my life. As a young adult, I set out to read all the best and greatest authors, the Classics. It took me about twenty years to read the finest authors and all their works. I have a B.A.E. and an M.F.A.
I have a Bachelor of Art Education Degree and a Master of Fine Arts Degree. I taught Painting and Drawing classes for 14 years at the Florida Keys Community College.
I have a Florida State Teaching Certificate. I have also worked for 2 tutoring companies, where I taught children Math and English. I have also been a substitute teacher in the public school system in the upper Florida Keys.

Because I was a GED teacher for over 3 years with a specialty in English, I have a very great knowledge of Reading skills. I am a voracious reader myself and am never without a book!
I am a Florida State certified teacher. I have two college degrees. I have been teaching for over thirty years in one capacity or another to children, teens and adults. I have worked for two other tutoring companies.
As a college instructor I was required to design and create the Syllabi for four different credit courses. This was instrumental in learning how to intelligently lay out an arc of study where one step led automatically to the next. Each step needed to be mastered before moving on to the next step in a continuous line that culminated in satisfactory knowledge of the subject matter.
Therefore, when I tutor a student I am able to set a course of study that is logical and also give them the skills they need to achieve success. These may include: budgeting their time, using reference and source materials, and repeated practice in any area that may be difficult for them.
