I am a graduate of Nova Southeastern University with an MBA specializing in Finance. I did my undergraduate degree in Mechanical Engineering at University Technology of Jamaica, and I worked for 6 years as a lecturer at the Montego Bay Community College in Jamaica. I was the Coordinator for the pre-engineering program. I taught Maths (pre-Algebra, Algebra, Geometry,Calculus, Statistic and general Math), Physics, Engineering Science and Computer Science. Besides Lecturing I have done a lot of private tutoring in maths to students of all age.
In general, I favor a "hands-on" approach to teaching that involves a lot of interaction between the tutor and student, and concrete experiences in addition to worksheets. However, my specific methods vary according to the subject being taught and the learning style of the student.

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I will help students on how to be familiar with the ACT Test. I will look at question styles and samples for all four areas of the ACT test (reading, English, math and science), as well as sample for the writing portion. Help them develop skills/strategies that include what the real test looks like, how to take a timed test, how to approach questions that you don’t know how to answer, how to organize and write an essay in 30 minutes, how to maximize what you know, and other test taking strategies.
I will provide students with a thorough and extensive study of linear and quadratic functions and graphing on the xy-coordinate system. By the end of thier lessons, students will have all the knowledge necessary to solve and graph equations and inequalities. They will also be able to apply this knowledge to other areas of math, such as word problems, ratios and proportions.
I will start off with a quick review of basic algebraic concepts, such as variables, order of operations, exponents and problem solving skills. They will gain a thorough introduction to functions, the basis of all of algebra and higher mathematics, such as calculus. Students will learn how to solve linear equations, including multistep equations, equations with multiple variables and equations involving decimals, as well as write a linear equation based on the graph of a line. Algebra 1 course also gives the students a thorough introduction of functions and quadratic equations. They will learn all the operations associated with the two, such as factoring and graphing. Knowledge of algebra 1 will be further enhanced by introduction to some basic concepts of geometry.
I will build on algebraic and geometric concepts and develop advanced algebra skills such as systems of equations, advanced polynomials, imaginary and complex numbers, quadratics, and concepts that include the study of trigonometric functions. I will also introduce matrices and their properties.
Will cover limits, continuity, derivatives, and integrals of algebraic and transcendental functions of one variable, with applications, applying differentiation and integration techniques to algebraic and transcendental functions.

Will prepare students for the mathematics portion of the SAT. Topics that will be covered include algebra, geometry, and techniques in standardized testing. Will reinforce these mathematical skills through practice tests.
Will prepare students for SSAT. Will expose them to the various sections of the test, test taking approach and skills and practice test. Will provide timed practice test to be able to gauge their progress and to find out potential areas for improvement.
