Bio

I have been a private tutor since 1979. Having logged thousands of hours in one-on-one tutoring over the past 39 years, I can assure any prospective student that you will not find a more genuine tutor. I am not a classroom teacher who happens to tutor on the side. As a matter of fact, I am not a teacher at all. I started out as a really good student and got my start showing other students how to be excellent as well. I would not settle for anything but top of the class. Some of my first tutoring gigs were paid with ice cream treats in my school cafeteria. "Sure I'll help you with that homework. Just go get me an orange creamsicle and we'll get you all straightened out". After my brain got flexing, I realized I could make real money at tutoring. So I set up shop going house to house on my bicycle for $3.50 per hour. Many things have changed since 1979. I am now much older, have tutored all five of my own kids, and I still approach every session with a desire to get my student smarter.

I have B.S. (3.92) and M.S. (4.0) degrees in mechanical engineering and am a co-inventor of a patent on a pair of surgical telescopes (1994) used in deep cavity procedures. Having been a member of Mensa, I am able to show students how smart students think through problems. For fun, I have scored perfect 800 SAT math scores several times. I tutor algebra, geometry, trig, calculus, and physics, and I specialize in math SAT topics. There are dozens of important topics that need to be addressed before mastering the SAT. In Florida, a really good SAT score can be worth up to $16,000 in Bright Futures Scholarships.

My lessons are fun, yet effective. Please be sure to review my Wyz-Ant testimonials and ratings. They are some of the best tutor ratings in the area. I work out of an office in Englewood so I can maximize my time spent tutoring. On any given night, I could end up facing kids in Algebra, Geometry, Trig or Calculus--and any topics within those classes. So I have to have great recall of material and be ready to explain how to d

Calculus,

Calculus

Calculus is a great course. I learned it in engineering school and have been tutoring it for about 30 years. You don't find a lot of tutors who are up for it, but I really enjoy it.
Physics,

Physics

I first got interested in Physics in engineering school. It is a wonderful course for kids to finally answer the question, "When am I ever going to use this"? The idea of using math to calculate when something will hit the ground or how things will behave after they collide is really eye-opening.
SAT Math,

SAT Math

In order to be a good SAT math student, one has to be very skilled at using their math skills in clever ways. The SAT people reward students who can do that. I have been tutoring SAT math for over 30 years and have scored perfect math scores several times on real tests. I have taken the SAT with my own kids in the room. You know what they say, "A family that takes the SAT together, stays together."

Smart and knowledgeable tutor

He helped me to better understand geometry and fill in the gaps that were missing from classroom lessons.

Great teaching style for building confidence!

Larry helped my daughter to begin preparing for a college placement test. My daughter does not feel like she has a natural talent for math, but Mr. D. helped her look at math in a different way. She felt much more confident about her ability to study effectively for and pass this test. We look forward to working with Larry again.

Very knowledgeable

Our first lesson went very well. We asked to switch between chemistry, pre calc, and physics. He was very accommodating and efficient. Within one hour was able to move from one lesson to the other. Looking forward to next week's lesson.

So glad we found Larry!

My son began working with Larry in Sept 2017. At the time my son had just become a high school freshman. He had always struggled with school. It also was always a struggle to find a tutor that he could relate to... he never wanted to go to tutoring. When I saw the write up about Larry... I thought that it might be a good fit. I am so happy. Will actually enjoys going to tutoring now... no small feat! He began working with Larry for Algebra and has now moved into working with him on study habits... they began reviewing science and completing a worksheet last night. I don’t know how he does it... but Larry has managed to relate to my son in a way few tutors have. We are so thankful to have found him!!

Knowledge and great teacher

I have gone seven years without taking Calculus and he's helping immensely to remember. He knows his stuff and is very patient for an old guy like me. Definitely recommend Larry.

Fantastic Tutor!

After just one session with Larry, my daughter had a better understanding of her Algebra 2 work, and he even helped her to understand some of the math in her Chemistry class. Larry helps the kids to understand math in a practical and fun way that boosts their confidence. I highly recommend him!

Larry is an awesome teacher!

I was very impressed how much my daughter learned in just a short one hour lesson. He’s very energetic and enthusiastic about teaching. We have already booked another two hour session for Iris tomorrow afternoon. We believe he is well worth what he’s charging. We look forward to using Larry when she gets stuck on her math lessons.

Positive and encouraging Tutor

My son loved his first lesson and walked away feeling much more confident and excited about math. He particularly appreciated Larry's ability to sense when he had grasped the material and when he needed more explanation so that the pace was just right.
