About Trent

Hi there,

First, a little bit about me: I’m Trent -- a 22 year old recent graduate of Indiana Wesleyan University who holds a Bachelor’s degree in Philosophy and Theology. I’m an avid reader, writer, and lifelong learner. I have a passion for making big, complex concepts simple and accessible. Outside of education, my passion lies in music and pop culture. I’m an absolute nerd for rap and I can prettymuch tell you what’s going on in the world of KimYe at any given moment.

My tutoring experience began in college, after I was nominated by my academic advisor (and philosophy professor) to tutor students who were struggling with Intro to Philosophy. I tutored for two semesters, meeting with 3 to 4 students individually each week to revisit lectures, help with homework, and clarify points of confusion. What set me apart from other tutors was my use emerging platforms like YouTube and Google Docs to make learning simple and fun, and I found that my students paid more attention and retained more information using these platforms.

In my year of tutoring at Indiana Wesleyan, all of my students saw an increase of at least half a letter grade (and typically much more than that). I pride myself on my conciseness and thoroughness. My greatest strength as a tutor is my ability to make the more abstract side of learning that comes with subjects like reading, literature, writing, and philosophy easy to understand for students who gravitate to more concrete subjects like math and science.

For me, tutoring is about watching the lightbulb go off in a student’s head. Watching students have those “aha!” moments, where their synapses are firing and everything finally clicks, is what I love more than anything. Those moments were easily the most satisfying of both my experience as a tutpr and as a student myself -- and I look forward to facilitating those moments with you!

Now that I’ve graduated, my focus is on assisting college students and high school students gearing up for college. I know what it takes to get into your dream school, and I know what it takes to succeed once you’re there. If you’re a college student struggling to make the grades you want in your Philosophy, English, Literature, Reading, or Writing courses, I’m here to help you get that A. If you’re a high school senior prepping for your SAT or ACT, I’m here to prepare you so that you don’t have to worry come test day.

I’m fully available for lessons and am currently seeking new students. Feel free to contact me and schedule a lesson. My schedule is extremely flexible and I’m more than willing to work with your availability. Together, we can make your academic goals reality. Can’t wait to work with you!

I hold a Bachelor's Degree in Philosophy and Theology, and am an excellent reader and writer.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Bible Studies

I hold a Bachelor's degree in Philosophy and Theology from Indiana Wesleyan University (a private christian university). I took classes such as Old Testament, New Testament, Inductive Bible Study, Ancient and Medieval Theology, and many more in order to earn my degree. While at IWU, I tutored philosophy and, for a short time, Old Testament.
