University of Notre Dame (English Psychology)
My name is Alayna and I am a 2012 graduate of the University of Notre Dame. I received a valuable well rounded education at Notre Dame, while also specializing in English and psychology. I have six years of experience tutoring individuals of all ages - from age six to twenty-three years old. I have tutored in the following subjects: elementary math, elementary reading and grammar, phonics, middle school literature, high school English, Advanced Placement English Literature and Language, and college-level writing. I also specialize in teaching students about study skills, such as note-taking, memorization tools, organization, and time management. I am passionate about helping you gain a better understanding of a subject, topic or particular question. I specialize in the English language - reading, writing, grammar, phonics, and literature, but am also willing and able to tutor in other subjects.
My tutoring approach is very hands-on. I encourage my clients to ask questions so that we can work together to seek out the answers. The answers we arrive at are not as important as the process taken to find the solution. If you are not working on a particular homework assignment, I typically will assign work to reinforce the skills and lessons we are working on during our sessions. I am patient, calm, and determined to help you or your loved one better understand the topic at hand. I believe that hard work and effort breed self-esteem and confidence!

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
