Stetson University (History)
Greetings! I am a recent graduate of Stetson University in Deland, FL. I graduated Magna Cum Laude majoring in History with minors in Gender Studies and Russian, East European and Eurasian Studies. My most prominent work at Stetson was my Senior Research on Eleanor Roosevelt's Leadership of the United Nations' Human Rights Commission from 1946-1948.
During my time at Stetson I was fortunate enough to be the recipient of several awards, including: The College of Arts and Sciences Outstanding Senior in History Award, the Col. Rhett Outstanding History Manuscript of the Year Award, the Lycan Outstanding Junior in History Award, the Jacqueline Hogue Gentry Award for Commitment to Women's Rights, the Ann Morris Gender Studies Essay Award, and the Building Bridges LGBTQ Activism Award. At Stetson, I worked as a research assistant to a history Professor and I was a teaching apprentice in American Women's History.
I also was selected to present my research at the Florida Undergraduate Research Conference, the Regional Phi Alpha Theta History Honor Society Conference, and the National Conference on Undergraduate Research, so apart from subject matter and writing, I look forward to helping tutor the student in confidence and Public Speaking if requested.
Prior to attending Stetson, I attended a community college in Reno, Nevada where I was Awarded Nevada Board of Regents' Scholar of the Year Award. At my community college I worked in the Tutoring and Learning Center as a Writing Tutor for one year.
I love not only helping students improve their writing and retain information in a more productive and meaningful way, as well as providing test taking and studying strategies but also inspiring passion for course material by making it fun, interesting, and relevant to their lives. I plan to continue on to grad school and become a history and gender studies professor so any tutoring experience is invaluable to me in my professional and personal development.
Stetson is an academically rigorous institution, especially in the history department; I was able to juggle four research and writing intensive classes at once while maintaining a 3.84 GPA. I am knowledgeable in U.S. History across the board from the Colonial days to present, as well as Women's History, Ancient, Medieval, and Modern British History, Ancient Greek and Roman History, the French Revolution, Russian and Soviet History, Ancient and Colonial Latin American History, Women's History, the transnational history of the Cold War, and WWII.
Disclaimer: I am a transgender woman and I wouldn't want to make you uncomfortable whether parent or student. So if you are uncomfortable around transgender people, I recommend looking for another tutor.
If, however, my gender identity is not a problem for you and you are impressed with my profile, then I welcome getting to know you and helping students intellectually prosper as students of history. Please contact me to schedule lessons. Greetings! I am a recent graduate of Stetson University in Deland, FL. In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
