Florida Atlantic Univ (Social Work)
I have always enjoyed working with children and adults. Most of my background is in social work, but I have also worked in elementary schools, where I tutored students in reading, spelling, math and study skills. In 2006 I started working for Greenville Literacy in South Carolina, I was a program manager and tutor for an ESL and Pre-GED adult education center for four years. I have many years of experience in tutoring ESL, Pre-GED, GED and elementary education.
My approach for tutoring children is that I am not there for homework help but to reinforce the concepts that the student is having trouble with. I do this though games, worksheets and online websites. For Pre-GED, I use study guides, real-life examples and explain the concepts in a variety of ways. I do assign homework. My approach with ESL students depends on their English skills. I like to make sure my students have a good solid base. I use age appropriate materials, worksheets and hands on learning in real life situations. Again, I do assign homework. Practice, practice, practice!
I do hold myself to a high standard. For that reason, I do ask that we meet at a public location for safety reason and so that students have a quiet and comfortable place to study. I do have a 24 hour cancellation policy but offer make-up classes.
I look forward to hearing from you and helping you achieve your educational goals. I have always enjoyed working with children and adults. Most of my background is in social work, but I have also worked in elementary schools, where I tutored students in reading, spelling, Read more

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
