St. Leo University (BA History and Education)
American InterContinental University (MEd)
I am currently retired from the US Army as an LTC and from Walt Disney World. I graduated from St. Leo University with a BA Degree in history and education. I received my Masters Degree from American Intercontinental University in educational technology (i.e. On-Line Learning)
During my career with the US Army, I traveled extensively in the Far East, Europe and South America, and most of my duties centered around training and education. Likewise, while working with Walt Disney World for 20 years, this work also centered around training.
Currently, I reside in DeLand, Florida. I Pleased to have a daughter, two grandchildren and one great-grandson and great-granddaughter. In my spare time, I read historical novels centered around the Civil War and WWII, travel to historical sites here in the United States and enjoy building model aircraft and my N gauge model railroad. Above anything, my family is paramount in my life.
Now that I am retired, I feel it is time to give back to this new generation in the form of tutoring, especially in the field of math, a subject which is often despised, given the current climate in the classroom today. Most, of our teachers, are not allowed to teach and assist students who are struggling; they are obliged to stay on a track designated by the local school board. As a tutor, I can assist the student to regain his/her confidence within themselves to again understand the subject and move forward to improve their standing in the classroom and their grades. My other subject dear to my heart is History. This subject as well is not favorably received in the classroom. Therefore, I can change one's attitude toward history, in part due to my vast travels in the military, which allows me to relate to what is being taught and to pass on first-hand knowledge, which many teachers only dream about. I like to make history fun, not just memorizing dates and places but the cause and effect; I teach how events impact the future. One must remember when studying and understanding history, it always repeats itself, we must gain meaning out of those events in the past in order to understand the future. My best example is the 9/11 event in New York. A similar event took place over a half of century ago in a place called Pearl Harbor, December 7, 1941. If only if we had remembered our shortcomings at that time, and applied them today, we might have prevented this event (9/11) from happening.
Currently, I've tutored in the Advanced Learners and the SES program in which I tutoring grade school students in reading and math. Also, I've tutored students in college Intermediate Algebra, high school Algebra 1 and Geometry. I feel that I am very much qualified to teach all levels of math and history from k-k12 and college.
Outside the normal school subjects, Ive tutored individuals in ASVAB Test, those trying to gain entrance into today's military.
So, if you are up to the challenge of working hard and want to understand and grow through math, history or the ASVAB Test contact me. Mr. C came prepared to review and address the very specific lesson plan being reviewed at school which helped give our daughter the extra confidence she needs.
Gerald is a very good tutor, he is patient & kind. Gerald makes sure the material is understood before he moves on. He also makes power point as a reference for future problems, which is wonderful. Iwould highly recommend him. He knows what he is doing & cares about it.
Gerald showed up at my daughter's first session with a notebook already created. He was on top of the lesson plan and super engaging. He communicates right away and definitely understands the concepts.
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
Algebra I is so vital to a student's success in completing and understanding higher levels of math, I teach this subject concentrating on math basics, which should have been acquired in grades K-8. Thus working on the student's shortcomings and highlighting his strengths I try to teach math so the student feels he is in control and that success is the optimum goal. I also teach a lot of the shortcuts which are not taught in the classroom; thus, making it much more simple for the student to comprehend.
This is a test for entering the military. I am veteran of 30 years in the military, I entered right out of high school, and at that time was required to take a similar test, which I passed. I started my military career as a Private, went to Officer Training School and received my commission. I also taught two years at FIT University as Assistant Professor of Military Science, while there I taught military subjects and evaluated ROTC cadets for military service as prospective officers. Therefore I feel adequately qualified for this subject.
I have extensive study in Both World and European History. Due to my military travels I've experienced and lived in many of the places related to the subject matter taught in the text books related to European History. Therefore this makes me some what qualified to relate to my students the important aspects related to history in the European theater.
I currently tutor Geometry, Algebra One and Two. I hold a BA and Masters degrees in Education and have been teaching and tutoring for numerous years. I currently retired and live in DeLand,
Based on my experience in the military, my background in educational technology and having tutored this subject to individuals in their homes with a one-on-one approach to teaching; I feel fully qualified in teaching this subject.
