People who start learning the second language before the age 7 will achieve native like second language speech. After 14 or 15, there is a less chance to become native like. Between 7 to 14, the result is varied. However, recent research has ensured that people who start learning the second language later are still able to be indistinguishable from native speakers. If a learner is immersed in the second language environment, or s/he accepts the right education, s/he can be successful in the second language learning.It's my job to make the dream happen.

I’m 25 years old, and a native Chinese speaker. I speak Mandarin and English, fluent in both languages.I earned My bachelor degree in Law. I am presently earning my Masters degree in linguistics. My main focus is on second language acquisition, which helps me a lot for my career----I know how a student can learn a language more efficiently and faster. I started my private Mandarin tutoring three years ago, and have much experience.
I have taught in FAU for two years, and helped many learners with no basis of the Chinese language to start speaking and thinking in Chinese in just as short as one year. I am also now teaching Coral Springs Chinese language School every weekends. My students range in age from 5 to 50, including students from totally different language backgrounds. Right now I'm teaching Chinese in University School of Nova Southeastern University. I also have sufficient private tutoring experience, which will definitely helps me to prepare your future lessons.
I won’t teach without the information of the student’s exact knowledge of Chinese. I will have a simple pretest with the learner. This will help me to know the learner better.
For intermediate learners who will focus their learning on sentence structure and new words. My specific learning method is “processing instruction+ interaction” which is also based on the notion of a teaching method called “3P---presentation, practice, production.
First of all, Learners are presented with the information of a specific form. Next, learners are acknowledged to problems they may encounter with the target form, especially are these very different from their native languages. Learners then practice a lot on the form. In order to know the meaning of the sentences, they have to understand the structure first. They need to frequently interact with me. Students are highly encouraged to produce the target form. They may talk with me in class, and they will have homework to write a composition including the new target form.
For beginners, I will spend more time to teach pronunciation and character writings. These two parts are vital for the future language learning. Everything will be very basic. Basic daily conversation and fundamental vocabulary will be covered throughout the whole course.

First, I have professional background. Linguistics is a great major for the language-teaching career. I know how to teach a language; I know how learners process and acquire a new language. Second, I am young and I know the language trend. Every year, some words die out and some words become popular. You might need to know that some teachers who came to the U.S a long time ago are still using and teaching the words that are no longer used in China. Third, I speak Chinese with no accent at all. Please be noted that some teachers speak Chinese with a strong accent from their dialects. If the tutor is from southern area, s/he may hold the original accent while speaking Mandarin. I’m very enthusiastic in teaching, because I consider it my career, instead of a part time job. I enjoy and love teaching. I’m positive and never discourage my students. I love to progress with my students and see them improving every day.

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students.
