About Louis

ENJOYABLE LEARNING

I love learning and sharing my knowledge, which is why I love my job as a professor at FAU. If learning is fun, we all remember how to maneuver through an activity which we learned by having fun. When we are enjoying an activity, we become relaxed and receptive to active learning. Being quickly successful at the beginning of a learning process builds confidence in an area of difficulty. Motivation is tied to Achievable goals and builds the confidence required to achieve the desired goal, learning.

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Microsoft Outlook

I have successfully executed MS Outlook for 15 years for both business and personal use. I took several courses including one at FAU offered to faculty and several of a self-guided style. I have taught it at several learning institutions and been on a consumer MS advisory council. At FAU we are updated periodically by our in-service department in a hands-on classroom technique. I taught beginners the use in several firms to both current and potential employees.

NCLEX

I have taken and passed both my LPN exam and RN (NCLEX) in the upper 4/5 of those taking the exam. I have managed study groups in preparation for the exam. I have also tutored for this exam. All of my students passed. I also teach proper techniques for testing with positive results feedback from students. I teach and tutor nursing students.

Pharmacology

As an RN student at University I took and passed with an A Pharmacology and as a nurse I continue to keep my knowledge current through CEUs. I have taught pharmacology modules for more than 10 years to NCLEX candidates and as an in-service in several nursing agencies.

Public Speaking

Chip D., PhD FIDG, FIIDA

As a professor at Florida Atlantic University in The School of Architecture, Chip engages his students using good speaking skills. The winner of Florida Extemporaneous Speaking Award, he has spoken before a wide range of audiences on varied subjects. His ability to adapt to a variety of audiences has positioned him as a sought after speaker for conventions and targeted groups.
Selected to be part of the Star Group he has trained attorneys in the guidelines to expert public speaking. He is also a featured speaker aboard luxury ships and tutored political figure during campaigns. He has served as an expert on winning legal teams as well as preparing witnesses for trial testimony.
Chip believes there are two must have life skills in order to be successful: public speaking and confidence.

Social Studies

I taught Social Studies for the first six years of my teaching career. It has now been renames Social Science and includes Geography, Economics, Political Science and Histories both US and world. I have now successfully tutored 4 students in these areas for the FTCE Teat. I also studied for and successfully took the Teachers Exam which included the Social Studies component. In seeking my degrees I have taken multiple courses in these areas through out the years.

Study Skills

I have for more than 6 years been teaching study and testing skills at the University level. I teach this to freshman in a group environment at FAU as needed. I completed successfully, at University of Miami, a course on the teaching skills and methods for both study and testing skills.

Many of our university students come to the college classroom with poor time management and study skills, struggling for even a "C". I have tutored students in private sessions resulting in a 1-2 grade increase. Although there is not a one skill list fits all, with individual adjustments to there approach everyone can increase their grades.

Using these essential methods, when applied correctly, improve subject material comprehension resulting in improved grades. Beyond the basic when and where factors, there is a deeper level of reading and listening comprehension. Often a student hears the lecture in class and read the word in the text but fails to listen or understand the concept or statements. With practiced study skills, student frustration diminishes resulting in better comprehension and retention. Good study skills are often ignored until poor grade become a factor but it is a problem which can improve with guidance, implementation and practice.

TEAS

I am an RN with my PhD who has been teaching Nursing related qualifying tests such as NCLEX, HESI and TEAS for more than 10 years. I am currently tutoring a students in several types of tests to qualify for nursing schools. I am proficient in all areas of the exam which include English, Reading Comprehension, Math, A&P, Physics and Chemistry. My students do very well in these exams. As a University professor for more than 15 years my teaching experience and skills add to the quality of the tutor experience and test results.

Very knowledgeable tutor

I just finished my tutoring sessions with Louis, and he was very helpful. When I began to study for the HESI LPN-ADN Entrance exam I had no idea where to begin. The content I was expected to know was very vast and I was overwhelmed. Louis took that anxiety away and helped me develop a smooth study plan. He also gave me confidence in myself. Constantly saying things like " you can do this" " you kn
