I have been tutoring writing at the university level for the past couple of years. During this time, I gained experience working with a wide range of ability levels, ranging from non-native speaker students to native English speakers with strong command of the language who just need help with final editing and minor grammatical errors. I've also had the opportunity to work on graduate and Ph.D. level papers, as well as co-authoring a journal paper which was presented at an international symposium. I'm also presenting at the ASEE Annual Conference this June. I just finished my B.S. in Aerospace Engineering and will be starting my M.S. in Systems Engineering in the fall. During my time at ERAU, I gained significant experience in the engineering and science fields and have a strong grasp of scientific writing principles. Additionally, I served as a teaching assistant for two semesters, which has provided me with even further teaching experience. I've also been completing research in the field of engineering education; once my M.S. is completed, I hope to seek a Ph.D. in Engineering Education.
Due to the wide range of students I have experience working with, I have been able to develop many different methods for working with students of differing abilities and learning styles. I've been able to develop teaching styles that helps student learn to identify and fix their own mistakes, instead of just pointing out what is wrong and fixing it for the student. The goal is to improve the student's writing so that they don't need my help anymore!
Please feel free to get in touch with me if you have any questions about my teaching methods, my skills, or my availability. I look forward to hearing from you soon! In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

I am able to use the proper terminology to explain these concepts, as well as provide simple and complex examples of each case. I've also been exposed, and learn to work with, complex sentence structures and identifying cases in which sentences should be modified to improve clarity, even if they are grammatically correct in their original form.
I have been making PowerPoint presentations for over 10 years. I have experience with both the design elements of the program and the technical aspects. I have generated timed presentations, as well as adding notes and various other features.
I have been working with Microsoft Word for over a decade. I have knowledge of basic formatting and design features. I also have significant experience working with specialized features, such as citation organization and multiple-copy edit compilation.
During my time as a writing tutor, I have gained the necessary skills to identify small and large grammatical, clarity, and structure issues. I have also developed a wide range of ways to correct these issues, making decisions based upon the style of the writing and the author's personal writing manner. I am also familiar with the standard proofreading mark system.
