About Elise

Hello, my name is Elise.

I am an experienced special education teacher and speech pathologist. I hold a bachelor's degree in speech pathology from the University of Tennessee and a masters degree in Education with a specialization in literacy from the University of North Florida.

I am a certified special education teacher and I have experience teaching students with learning disabilities, students with behavior concerns, and students on the autism spectrum. I am currently in my fourth year teaching as a co teacher at a private school in Winter Park where I teach reading, writing and math to students in upper elementary and middle school.

I specialize in working with struggling readers in elementary school and have many resources to help students in building their reading and writing skills. I believe in a phonics based approach to reading and have a lot of experience with working with beginning readers. As a teacher, I feel a student's interests should be encouraged and I love to build my lessons around things that the students enjoy.

I hope you find an interest in my teaching and will consider me to help your students meet their educational needs. I look forward to hearing from you!

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
