My name is Robert and I come with over 35 years of teaching experience on the middle school, high school and college levels. Although both my undergraduate and graduate degrees are in Speech Communication, I was certified to teach American History and American History AP, American Government and American Government AP, Acting and Dramatic Appreciation and Public Speaking (all K-12). On the college level, I taught primarily Public Speaking but also directed two main stage productions each year as well as teaching Humanities and Dramatic Appreciation.
I loved teaching, and judging from evaluations from students throughout the years, they liked me as a teacher. I took an active interest in the education of all my students. I would identify the areas with which they were having trouble and get them to overcome the mental blocks that were holding them back. I never demeaned or belittled my students, but always tried to find the praiseworthiness of their work. In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I taught public speaking on the college level from 1974-2014 both as an adjunct and for the last 13 years as a full-time professor. I have coached public speaking both privately and publicly, have peer reviewed textbooks on the subject and am generally considered to be an excellent public speaker myself. Both my undergraduate and graduate degrees are in Rhetoric and Public address and along with those degrees come experience in phonetics, semantics as well a both ancient and modern rhetoric.
I have taught Dramatic Appreciation and acting on the college as well as high school levels. I have also directed over 150 plays and musicals. In addition, I have written and directed two plays: Addition by Subtraction and Movin' Iron, neither which have yet to be published.
