About James

My love of teaching comes from a lifelong desire to help other people succeed. We are always learning, and we are always teaching. The best part of any job that I have ever had has been the pleasure I receive when I can teach someone something new.

I specialize in teaching all things musical and all things legal. My bachelor's degree is in music education, and I am both a choral musician and orchestral musician. I have a thorough knowledge of music history and music theory, and am passionate about the study of music and music performance. Music is not a spectator sport! I went on to be a music teacher for a time, where I directed both the high school band and chorus and the elementary band and chorus.

In addition to being a musician, I am also a lawyer. I attended law school in Boston and graduated in 2007. Since then I have helped hundreds of disadvantaged individuals receive benefits to which they were entitled, but denied through no fault of their own.

My goal in teaching is to make the lessons enjoyable and relevant. I hope that my passion for my students and my subjects rubs off on my students in a way that makes them want to learn more. I look forward to meeting you and help you overcome the challenges that face you.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

American History

I have a bachelors degree in music education, which included several courses in music history. Music history was also one of my best subjects. I was taking Junior level courses as a Freshman and earned A's.

Bar Exam

I am a licensed attorney in Massachusetts and have recently taken (and prepared for) the Florida Bar Exam. My success on the MA bar exam in 2007, coupled with my recent "re-education" for the Florida exam, and my experience in actually taking bar exams, qualifies me in this field.

Criminal Justice

I am a licensed attorney in Massachusetts and have a thorough understanding of the 4th, 5th and 6th Amendments to the Constitution. Although I do not practice criminal law, these subjects are extremely important for the bar exam.

General Music

I hold a Bachelor of Music. In college, I majored in vocal/choral music and instrumental music (voice and French horn). I excelled at music history and music theory. I went on to be a music teacher for a time, where I directed both the high school band and chorus and the elementary band and chorus.

Music History

I have a bachelor's degree in music education. This degree required that I take several courses in music history while an undergraduate. I excelled in these courses, and received A's in all of them.
