I am a college graduate with three Associate of Science Degrees from Pasco-Hernando State College. I also have been working as a Instructional Substitute in Pasco County for the past three years, who require me to be able to teach like the teacher does. I have taught many different subjects from Pre-K through 12th grade students.

I specialize in tutoring Elementary Math, Reading, English, Spelling, Grammar, Proofreading, Vocabulary, Writing, along with Handwriting, Phonics, Marketing, Microsoft Word, and Study Skills. And, Public Speaking is also important and many students cannot imagine getting up in front of their peers and giving a presentation, but I can help with that too.

Being able to listen to students and find out what issues they are having, talking about their roadblocks, and finding positive solutions to overcome them is one of the many strengths I have. I know I can help any student, because I have the knowledge to do it AND the patience to get it done. I use multiple ways to teach, to help find the way that works best for the student. When you work with a student who is struggling, sometimes just finding out how that student learns best is the key to teaching them.

My schedule for tutoring is Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday from 9 am to 9 pm, and also Saturday from 9 am to 3 pm. I normally do not tutor on Sunday, but may make an exception on a case-by-case basis. I can travel to your home or a meeting place, such as a local library. Any cancellation should be done with at least three hours' notice.

I love teaching any student who wants to learn. I look forward to hearing from you and helping you achieve success!

Business

Business,

Business

I graduated college with an AS degree in Business Administration & Management, Word Processing Technology, and Office Systems Technology. I have 26 years experience that includes running a law firm for 11 years, working in a trucking company for 3 years, and running my own businesses for the past 13 years successfully. I have handled all aspects related to business from marketing, customer service, information retention, payroll, legal issues, billing, collection, and problem solving.
Marketing,

Marketing

I have 26 years of experience creating marketing slogans, campaigns, flyers, and even getting the donations for organizations. In college, I was required to take a marketing course, which was one of the easiest A's I was given. Selling a product or service mainly involves creative brainstorming and then taking those ideas and organizing them into a creative campaign to market your idea successfully.
Public Speaking,

Public Speaking

I have overcome my fear of public speaking by teaching all grades of school for the past 3 years. I have also had much success talking in front of professional adults, giving seminars, and even doing sales presentations. Simple tips on how to engage others and elicit responses from the audience help the speaker to relay information that the audience wants to hear, rather than just talking in front of people. I have taught students easy techniques that help them to relay information with confidence and help build their self-esteem. Overcoming this fear will help students throughout their educational and professional careers.

Elementary Education

Elementary (K-6th),

Elementary (K-6th)

I have helped children for the past 3 years as an Instructional Substitute to read and understand their assignments, find the answers and also feel good about themselves. Children need guidance and to learn to figure out difficult problems, so they build their self-confidence and become independent thinkers. I can help students do that. Teachers should help the children figure out the answer for themselves. Learning the basics, like handwriting, reading, math and study skills, sets up a great foundation for the future.
Handwriting,

Handwriting

I have helped both my children with both handwriting and cursive writing with great success. Working with children who are learning how to write for the first time or learning how to write better takes patience. Proper form is achieved with practice so the child can learn the habit. There are many exercises that will make learning fun for any child. Cursive writing takes a lot of practice ... to both write it and read it. There is a great need for attention to detail to critique and perfect proper cursive writing, which I can do easily.
Phonics,

Phonics

I have 2 children who struggled early with reading the way the school was teaching them. After figuring out each of their issues, I was able to teach them the phonetic way of reading, instead of the school's "look at the picture to get a hint" technique which only fostered guessing, not reading. Now, both of my children are fantastic readers, who do not need any help to figure out words, because they "know" how to sound them out for themselves.
Study Skills,

Study Skills

I have worked with students with poor study habits to determine their thought process and design a way for the students to organize their work and have better study habits. One easy way is reading over the material daily and discussing it with another person to help make it relevant will help a student remember the information. Making the information more personal and creating ways for a student to think about the information to remember it, sometimes for a lifetime.

Making a connection with a child is very important, so the child feels important and is getting the attention they need so they can concentrate on learning.

Cheryl was an excellent mentor and someone I would recommend to anyone. I will see her in the near future. We went over my strengths and weaknesses and she helped me figure out a way to overcome my issues.
