Kentucky Mountain Bible College (Elementary Education)
I am currently in my last semester of the elementary education program at Kentucky Mountain Bible College. I have completed one hundred and eighty hours of student teaching, sixty observation hours, and have volunteered my tutoring services and substitute teaching at Mt. Caramel Elementary School during my education at Kentucky Mountain Bible College.
Though there are many reasons why I love tutoring, one of the major reasons is the one-on-one factor. In this type of setting, a teacher is able to have a stronger connection with the student that can help both the student and the teacher develop a personal education plan that is catered to the personal needs of that student. In a class of 20 students it is far more difficult to ensure that each individual student is receiving the tools and methods they need to succeed. I love watching my students succeed!
Math was not my best subject. Therefore, I had to develop and learn creative ways of remembering Equations, rules, and tricks to quicken and sharpen my math skills. I understand some of the struggles certain kids face. At times, I can understand how and why they are unable to see the simplicity of a problem. I have tutored several students that really struggled in this particular subject throughout my years at Kentucky Mountain Bible college. I have enjoyed watching their excitement as they begin to understand.
I studied massage therapy for two years at Hands-On Medical Massage School in Redlands, California. This area of study involved a large portion of Anatomy. Having to learn many anatomy terms myself, I have had to come up with creative Mnemonics to help me remember the terms, their meaning, and what they refer to. I graduated with honors and am still using much of what I learned today.
Grammar and reading were difficult subjects of the past. I have a mild form of dyslexia that caused me to struggle in this area. This being the case, I had to learn creative ways to battle this. Today, I have tutored many students who have had similar struggles helping each to overcome. I have taken several courses as an elementary Education major that have tested me in this area showing it to be one of my strongest areas in education.
Though I have not taken any courses in drawing other than "Teaching Fine Arts," it is something I have always enjoyed doing in my free time. I am confident the things I have learned over the years will enable me to help your student. I have experience in three dimensional drawings, still life drawings, and portraits.
I am looking forward to helping my students overcome, build confidence, and most importantly, teach them how to develop their own personal study plans. I want to build students that are enabled, independent, and passionate for their education. Every student has a purpose, every student is valuable, and every student has the ability to learn. "We are not given a spirit of fear, but of power, love, and a sound mind." - 2 Timothy 1:7 I am currently in my last semester of the elementary education program at Kentucky Mountain Bible College. In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
As part of my education as an elementary education major, I have taken a course called "Teaching Fine Arts" that is specifically designed to prepare me to teach art to grades K-8. Though I have not taken any other art classes, I have enjoyed art as a hobby and have developed my skills over the years. I am experienced in three dimensional drawings, still life drawings, and portraits. I have tutored some 4th grade students in this area as well as worked as a paraprofessional underneath an elementary art teacher.
