In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
In addition to helping my own children through their successful high school and college years I am a tutor with patience and a positive outlook, because everyone knows that dads normally don't get much academic respect. I have additionally taught at the community college, university, and graduate levels, in classrooms, online courses, and making use of live online sessions for two decades, having received very high student evaluations for clarity, responsiveness, and knowledge. My own degrees are in engineering (West Point), Business (Pepperdine MBA) and doctoral studies at Portland State University, though I am not a Ph.D. as I never completed my dissertation.
I am well organized, continue to teach in both graduate and undergraduate online programs, and am therefore current in contemporary teaching and learning theory.
