Education is one of the most important things in life. Having a good education can transform your life and open new doors for you. In today’s world, the classroom teacher cannot touch each individual student like a tutor can, because every individual has his or her own way of learning.
My job as a tutor is to figure out the key to teaching that student the material in a way that they will understand. Students know that I truly enjoy being with them. I am knowledgeable, caring, and patient. My core belief is that every student can learn, we just have to take some time to figure out the best way for each individual to learn.
My interest in education began when, as a child, I had a hard time reading because of my mild dyslexia. I would see and write letters and numbers backwards. I know from my own experience how a child sees the letters if they have dyslexia and I can use methods I have used to overcome my disability.
I have a degree in liberal arts with an emphasis in childhood education, but I also have a special interest in teaching students with dyslexia, and adult education. I have worked with literacy volunteers for adult learners.
I love to tutor because of what I receive from the student as well as what I give to them. I taught a little first grader how to form words using phonic sounds and then blending them together to form words. The first time she truly understood how to figure out the word by herself was beyond anything I could imagine. In addition to teaching her reading skills, I taught her math and homework skills.
I am most interested in teaching reading and math at the elementary level but I would also like to teach adults trying to receive their GED. Getting your high school diploma makes you feel more successful and happy and leads to higher paying jobs.

I have been tutoring elementary students for 4 years. I have 3 years experience tutoring students in study skills, a set of abilities that include note taking, test taking, and time management. My students understand that these skills must be practiced step by step to achieve success in all areas of study. I have an Associates degree with an emphasis in childhood education.
