I have taught students with learning disabilities and speech impairments. My goal as a teacher, was to help the students develop positive social skills, writing skills, and phonics so that they could develop confidence to achieve their educational goals. As an educator, I love teaching and encouraging my students to be successful and excited about learning and growing academically. In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I worked as a special needs teacher for middle and elementary schools for 8 years. I was a certified LD teacher and I taught students with ADD, ADHD and LD. I taught, reading, language arts, and grammar. I'm certified in these areas.
I taught reading, language arts, and phonics to elementary and middle school students with learning disabilities for 7 years. I have a certification in Reading which included Phonics to help those students with reading comprehension, and cognitive dysfunction. My students learned that there are 76 phonograms in the English language and each student had these cards to learn how to pronounce words. Sounding out words was difficult for my students, but in the end, they were reading at their grade level. Each student had an IEP plan that needed to be followed and learning phonics was in their goal setting.
I am a certified teacher, and I taught school for 10 years.
As a Teacher, I teach one study skill each day as a part of my morning class, as a transition activity, or at the end of my class. It is effective and not to time-consuming. I teach my students good study habits about organization, homework, and how to focus while you work.
