I taught Montessori education for 40 years. I worked with children from 3 years to 6 years. I have tutored extensively in early phonics, reading and math. I have also tutored in French. I want to continue to be actively involved with children and their growth.
The past two years I have substituted all grades from pre-school through 6th grade.

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
During my 40 yrs of teaching in the Montessori method I have had many children benefit from the small class size and individual attention given to students with ADD/ADHD, Aspergers and Dyslexia. I have attended many seminars and workshops on how to use whatever approach is necessary to help these children succeed, and I can proudly say that with my help they have reached over and above what was expected. Patience and a calm approach is an added benefit.
The past two years after retiring from a Montessori school I have substituted in the upper elementary grades 4 through 6. I have helped the students in all areas specifically in the language arts, reading and writing. I was born and educated in England and have a strong English language and English literature background. Having taught the younger children for many years I find that I truly enjoy working with 4th, 5th and 6th graders.
I taught phonics as part of the Montessori curriculum for over 40 years to Primary students. I have also tutored privately for children needing extra help with reading by using the phonics approach. I have also tutored a Russian student enabling her to read and pronounce the English words by stressing the sound of letters. I truly believe that the only way to learn to read and write is the phonetical method.
