About William

I am a recent graduate of UCF with a bachelor’s degree in mathematics and over two years of tutoring and classroom teaching experience.

During my time in Seminole County Public schools, I have taught Algebra 1, Algebra 2, Geometry, and Pre-calculus courses, and have tutored students in many other math subjects. At the university level, I have completed coursework in Calculus (3 semesters), Physics (2 semesters), Differential Equations, Statistics, Linear Algebra, Mathematical Modeling, and many other math and math-related courses.

While I have primarily worked with K-12 students, I have tutored learners of all ages and am willing to accommodate all learning styles I can. I am very flexible with my teaching strategies and consider each student and his or her needs individually to provide as much help as I possibly can. I am a very patient teacher; through years of being a student myself, I know what it is like to struggle with difficult coursework, and can easily put myself in the shoes of the student. I value learning as one of the most valuable endeavors in life, and hope that my expertise can help as many people as I can in that pursuit.

If you have any questions or are looking for tutoring in an area of math or math-related subject that I haven't listed above, please feel free to contact me for more information! In addition to Math, I have some experience in computer science, and took two years of Russian. If you have needs in either of those subjects, I may be able to help. I am very flexible with scheduling and location for tutoring, and will get back to you as quickly as possible. I look forward to hearing from you!

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Algebra 1

I have a bachelor's degree in mathematics, and taught a high school Algebra 1 course in Seminole County Public Schools.

Algebra 2

I have a bachelor's degree in mathematics, and have taught Algebra 2 at the high school level. I also have over a year's experience tutoring students in Algebra 2.

Differential Equations

I have a strong working knowledge of differential equations from my coursework at UCF. I took a course specifically on differential equations, and several courses before and since using the methods studied in that course. While I have not tutored differential equations in the past, I have had much more recent experience with the material than I have had with other subjects that I tutor.

Linear Algebra

Linear algebra is a subject area that came up in many of my mathematics courses at UCF. I took two courses specifically on linear algebra: one titled Linear Algebra and Matrices, and the other Linear Algebra. The courses covered similar material, but one focused mostly on computations while the other was more proof-based and theoretical. At the undergraduate level, these two courses cover everything that you need on linear algebra.

Logic

I have an extensive background in courses dealing with logic. As a mathematics major, all of my advanced coursework was proof-based, so mathematical logic is second nature to me. Specifically, I took a course titled Logic and Proof in Mathematics which provided a good introduction to mathematical logic. Additionally, I have taken several computer science courses, which gave me experience using logic as it pertains to programming.

Really very good — William was very good at making the work I did not understand clear, so I should be able to do the work without help the next time. ...
