About Christine

My name is Christine and I am a certified, professional K-6 teacher who loves teaching reading and language arts. My love of teaching comes from my lifelong love of reading and writing for children. One of my goals as a tutor is to keep the student engaged in learning. I enjoy the creativity that I am able to bring to each child I teach as they begin to enjoy learning to read. Each child has a different learning style and I am able to support their individual need. The creativity I bring out in each child inspires them to want to learn to read. I am able to support each child's individual need, by giving them available choices and support their creative minds while they are being taught reading comprehension and language arts.

Children are creative by nature and I like to use a lot of hands on activities while teaching your child reading and language arts. In my experience I have found students that are participating in the story and lesson are learning and more interested to want to read then if they are just listening.
I am always organized and have a tutor plan based on each individual child's level. I am also very flexible when a change is needed that is essential to your child. I look forward to the growth your child will make when they can express what they've read and not feel frustrated. Progress reports and parent communication are essential for success.

Please give me a call and let us get your child interested in reading and language arts. It will open an entire new world of fun and adventure for your child.

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

ADD/ADHD

I have worked for over 15 years with students who present with ADD/ADHD. ADD/ADHD students learn differently. As a teacher I had to help my students with ADD/ADHD focus, stay on task, and learn to their full capabilities. In order to do this I needed to make accommodations within the classroom by changing what I can do to make learning better for the student. I needed to change instruction and modify my methods I used for teaching reading, language arts and all my subjects. I also had to intervene and head off any behavior that would disrupt the concentration of the student from learning.

Autism

I have a Florida Certification Autism Endorsement for the years 2015-2020 active. I have spent the last 4 years teaching autism and profound classrooms. Most of my classroom time has been spent on teaching reading, language arts, phonics and modified curriculum.

Elementary (K-6th)

I have a FL teacher certification in elementary K-6th grade active 2015-2020. I have spent the last 4 years teaching students in the grade range of K-5th grade reading and language arts through the use of modified curriculum. I have also administered alternate assessment testing to students in the elementary grade K-5.

Hard Of Hearing

As a certified teacher of students in grades K-6 I have spent the past 4 years teaching students who were hearing and visually impaired. I have basic sign language skills. I am also trained in using augmentative & alternative communication devices that are used as a student's way to express their wants and needs and or lessons such as phonics, stories and teaching.

Phonics

As a professional teacher in a classroom of students in grades K-5 I have taught scholastic level and Big Idea Phonics lessons and activities based on the phonics skills chart. Print awareness and Phonemic Awareness are important and I used lessons consisting of vowels, consonants, blends, words and short stories. Some wonderful phonics qualified lesson games used for my students in the classroom have been Make a letter, toss and blend, ABC nature, rhyme, beginning sounds, phonics, activities, phonics learn to read. All of these phonics activities were used as hands on activities to teach my students beginning sounds for their reading.
