My name is Barbara M. I was born in Hamburg, Germany and raised in Japan. I have been tutoring for the past six years in Cape Coral, Florida. I grew up in Japan and came to the USA after I met my husband. Having a Japanese mother and German father meant I was surrounded by both languages, becoming fluent in both. I earned my IB in German in high school and took the O-level exam at Oxford University in London. I passed the Japanese-Language Proficiency Test at level N2 and am studying for the N1.
Tutoring is my passion. Learning languages can be challenging, but I try to adjust my lesson plan according to my student’s need. Through my years of tutoring I had students telling me how they were so excited that they were able to use what they learned from me. I do set goals for students and try to lead them with positive encouragement. Each student has their own pace of learning Japanese or German. In my lesson I use books, magazines, and songs; if a student has material, I will implement it in their class. I give homework since I firmly believe students need to review what they learn and hopefully it will lead them to ask more questions. I also provide review sheets, depending on the student’s skills.
I hope to see you soon!

I took Japanese language lessons from Ms. R for about two months. Because my Japanese was beyond basic level these lessons often took the form of conversation sessions-- which was extremely valuable. Ms. R was patient, kind, and allowed me to maintain my Japanese skills over the summer, when I was fearful they would diminish. She is knowledgeable about Japanese language and culture, and I certainly recommend her for anyone looking to start Japanese or simply maintain it.
Dear Douglas, it was a pleasure meeting you and I wish you all the best for your future. Keep up the good work and speak Japanese whenever you have the opportunity!

Barbara has been a great tutor for all of our three children in the age of four, nine and eleven. She teaches them in ESL.
She is always on time, the materials she provides is very useful and helpful. Children like her a lot. We will book her again. Thank you, Barbara!
Thank you Nadja. Your children are very lovely and it was a pleasure teaching them.
I really enjoyed our first lesson. The way Barbara explained the language helped me understand a lot about how to read, write, and speak it. I'm looking forward to more lessons and have already learned a lot just on the first one.
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I have worked at a language school in Japan where I taught English. I have created lesson plans too. Recently, I taught at a VPK classroom to children. I try to use different approaches for students for them to feel comfortable to learn the language.
I have passed N2 Japanese proficiency test and have been tutoring in this subject for the past six years. I grew up speaking Japanese with my mother too.
