I am a high school math and science teacher, with experience teaching Algebra 1, Geometry, Algebra 2, and post-Algebra 2 math classes. I have also taught Integrated Science, Biology honors, physics honors, and AICE Physics .
I have a degree in Mechanical Enginering, and I have spent the last 20 years working in the automotive industry. I found that I really enjoyed teaching, and I received my Florida teaching certificate for Math and Physics in 2009.

I have a degree in Mechanical Enginering, and I have spent the last 20 years working in the automotive industry. I found that I really enjoyed teaching, and I received my Florida teaching certificate for Math and Physics in 2009.

Because of my life experiences, I have expertise in many other areas, and I can link the school work to real life applications.

I understand that students have different ways of learning and not all teachers and students can make the connection that results in a great experience for both of them.

The "aha!" moment that comes when a student finally registers understanding is an occasion to be celebrated!

As an engineer I gained extensive experience using Microsoft Excel and Word, including lookup tables, graphing, what-ifs, financial models, and pretty much anything else that can be done with Excel.

Please contact me if I can be of assistance either with office products, or with high school mathematics or science.

Thank you.

Subjects

Business

Microsoft Excel,

Microsoft Excel

While working as a program manager / business analyst in the automotive industry, I became very competent in Microsoft Excel. This includes data entry and importing, generating tables and charts, lookup tables, complex mathematics models, graphs and summaries of data. I also have experience writing "what-if" statements and macros.
Microsoft PowerPoint,

Microsoft PowerPoint

PowerPoint is the "go-to" presentation software. It is easy to teach a student how to put together a polished presentation, but still only use a small percent of the features available. Once the basics are mastered, the student can explore the more challenging options to produce a more creative and personalized presentation.

SAT Reading

SAT Reading

Vocabulary, context clues, test taking strategies, and "educated guesses". Many students struggle with the reading portion of the SAT because their vocabulary is limited, and they do not know how to use context clues and their own knowledge to narrow down the options and make an decision. I also tutor SAT math.

Homeschool

Algebra 1,

Algebra 1

Mostly taken by high school freshmen, this includes basic functions, an introduction to linear functions as well as solving polynomials and factoring.
Physics,

Physics

I am certified to teach physics in grades 6-12. Physics is quite simply "how and why do things work the way they do." Some of the subject matter can be confusing to students, particularly the first time around. I always try to relate the concepts to the reality that is being experienced by the student, and pursuits that are interesting to them. I am also happy to tutor Algebra based College Physics.
SAT Math,

SAT Math

SAT math is based on Algebra 1, Algebra 2 and Geometry. There are also strategies that can be learned to improve SAT scores.

Trigonometry,

Trigonometry

Trigonometry starts out with the basics of right triangles, sines, cosines and tangent ratios, and gets progressively more challenging. The students learn a number of tools with which to solve problems, and this can easily turn into a fun problem solving activity, rather than the drudgery of rote learning.
