I have been teaching and performing for more than 35 years, coaching people of all ages and levels on piano. My teaching style is always customized to the individual's needs rather than my taking a "boiler plate" approach. Each person has individual tastes, desires, needs, and learning styles, and that is to be respected. It's one of the things I enjoy most about teaching.
I have performed for various functions throughout the years, including weddings, private parties, corporate events, and some local television. I spent almost a half a year in Las Vegas doing some performing and returned to the east coast and have now settled in the Sarasota area to offer my services with enthusiasm. In addition to traditional piano lessons, my experience is vast in the areas of pop and jazz piano, improvisation, and encouraging others to develop their own personal playing styles.
In addition to that mentioned above, I enjoy helping people make sense of the music they are playing, nurturing an appreciation for music theory and ear training. Combining this avenue with the art of improvisation for those interested makes for a most well-balanced diet of musical nutrition one can expect from me.

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I have 35+ years experience tutoring people on piano, helping individuals to develop an enhanced appreciation for music at all levels and ages. All genres can be explored. I have a particular sensitivity to gearing my instruction to specific needs. For those also looking to take on a creative approach to playing piano, in addition to teaching reading and interpretation, my skills as an improvising player and teacher are exceptional.
I have been performing piano professionally for about as long I've been teaching. Performances range from serving as a piano soloist for weddings to working on a number of the major cruise lines to performing at corporate events.
Your specific situation will be given my undivided attention. There is no need to bring materials to your first lesson unless you have some from prior lessons (in that case, please bring to share, as it may be very helpful in establishing a starting point for us). I prepare much of my own written material, especially as it applies to the areas of theory, improvisation, and creativity.
I am qualified to assist with sight-reading, interpretation, modern chord theory, classical, pop, jazz, and other idioms. Improvisation is a strong point. Also, if you are one interested in developing a personal playing style, I have much experience with helping people along this avenue.
Whatever your particular musical goals are, please share them with me, as it will be my personal aim and privilege to help you realize your musical potential as it corresponds to these goals. Quality communication between us will be of utmost importance as we devote our energies to assisting you with your musical endeavors.
