I am a retired French and Humanities high school and college teacher. I taught for over 30 years in the Michigan Public School system before retiring to Wilmington. Since I've been here, I've taught French, Humor, Public Speaking and Music History for the Osher Lifelong Learning Program at UNCW. I am a dynamic, motivated and passionate educator who loves to watch students grow and gain confidence. My students always say that I make learning fun, and I believe strongly that people will practice what they know they can use and when they know that the process is enjoyable.
I have performed professionally on stage for years, and I continue to do so. Learning is like performing; it takes passion and practice. The result is a feeling of confidence that no one can take away from you.
My nickname is "Fifi, la Folle" (Fifi, the crazy woman).
I have a degree in French, and I've spent summers in graduate programs in France, including the Sorbonne. I have lived in France where I had to speak only French, and I continue to travel there regularly. I love France and the French people as well as French history and culture.
I may be reached by phone or by email, and my time is relatively flexible. I don't believe in wasting students' time with anything that is not relevant and helpful to their learning. My son just had his first lesson and it went extremely well. Within the first few minutes my wife and I knew Ms Moulin was a kind, even tempered, very professional and showed the proper amount of excitement to engage our 14yo honor roll student. We left them to work 1 on 1 for an hour and our son instantly was comfortable with her and was extremely happy with the help she was able to give him in just an hour. He definitely had an extra spring in his step when we were leaving. We will be working with her again for sure. Highly recommend.
Sandy makes re-learning French a fun activity, combining discussion of the student's own daily doings and interests. At the same time, she makes it challenging but interesting. Based on my first lesson, i would most heartily recommend her as a teacher!!
Going into my French class I knew very little French grammar or vocabulary. This is when I found Sandra through Wyzant. Sandra has been a great tutor to me and is very flexible with scheduling tutoring sessions. During our tutoring sessions she would make sure that I completely understand something before we move on to the next topic. She was very understanding and patient in helping me prepare for my French exams. Sandra provided me with very helpful practice exercises that helped me pass my French exams. With her help, I was able to pass my French class that I needed in order to graduate. Without her help there is no way I would have even come close to passing my French class. I would defiantly recommend Sandra to any student struggling with French!
Even though I was having trouble with some concepts, Sandy was great at presenting the info in different ways so I would understand. Thanks!
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I have taught French for over 30 years, and I continue to tutor and use my language on a weekly basis. I have lived in France, studied at the Sorbonne (University of Paris) and have completed graduate work in Angers and Aix-en-Provence. I have used numerous strategies for individualizing instruction so that your specific learning style will be addressed. Most importantly, I know how to make learning fun!
I have played and performed since age 5. I perform regularly in the community. I have a minor in music and have taught well over 50 piano students.
I am classically trained, but I play by ear and also play cocktail piano. I have played professionally on and off for many years.
I would prefer beginning students.
I am a member of Toastmasters International. I have served as an officer for two different chapters, and I have won two local contests. I perform regularly on stage using my public speaking skills, and I am passionate about the confidence that public speaking has provided. I am an excellent speech writer, and I am eager to help others learn the basics and how to deliver their messages in a dynamic way.
