Bio

My love of teaching began in college when I would tutor high school students. I maintained a 4.0 GPA in college while majoring in chemistry and tutoring on the side. I then went on to work in research and development for a chemical firm. Later, I worked as an analytical chemist. When my children came along, I dedicated my time to home-schooling them.

I am now a home-school mother of two straight A students and would like to help your child reach his/her full potential. I learned to speak Spanish fluently while living abroad and am capable of teaching it to others. I have a Bachelor of Science in Chemistry and am available for tutoring students in mathematics and science, as well as some elementary subjects.

I love seeing students excel in school and would love to help your child exceed his/her own expectations. I tutor students in a quiet environment that promotes learning. I am good at breaking down hard subjects into small, easy to remember pieces. I will ensure that your child knows the information by giving him/her practice exercises. I only require a 2 hour cancellation notice and love to hear feedback from my parents and students.

I hope you would give me the opportunity to help your child. I look forward to meeting you!

Corporate Training

Proofreading,

Proofreading

My proofreading qualifications became evident as I maintained a 4.0 GPA throughout college. I was able to make A's on all my English compositions, as well as essays in other subjects. I am very detail oriented, which helps me to notice grammatical mistakes.
Spanish

Spanish

I lived in South America for 8 years where I learned to speak Spanish fluently. I had formal training from a language institute where I learned Spanish grammar and sentence structure along with pronunciation. Through everyday situations I learned culture and a wide variety of vocabulary. Here in the United States, native Spanish speakers assume that one of my parents is Hispanic and the other American. That, to me, speaks highly of my language level.

The best help I have received so far; instead of just memorizing formulas she used associations that were easier to remember.

I had been stuck for weeks on Central Angles, Arc length, and radians. I was finally able to move past that and on to new topics.

Very patient and helpful

Melissa is a very helpful and patient tutor. She takes a lot to time explain the problems and made it easier for my child to understand. We were all impressed with her tutoring after the first session with her. She has a very kind and gentle personality and attitude. We saw great improvements in our child's work progress immediately. She really knows how to make your children feel comfortable enough where learning comes a lot easier for them. I have used other tutors in the past but she is far better than any I have ever called upon. I would highly recommend her to anyone who has a child struggling in Geometry as well as other subjects. She is someone who has a great deal of knowledge and understanding about your child's needs in their subjects. Melissa has an excellent demeanor and qualifications to fit any child.
