UNIVERSIDAD DE LEON (Master's)
I have a Master Degree in Teaching Spanish as a Foreign language, from Universidad de Leon , Spain, diplomas from Instituto Cervantes, max. authority in the Spanish Language.
I have been tutoring since 2008, online and on-site. I create didactic materials that allow to communicate in Spanish according to the correspondent different levels of proficiency and ages. Above all, I consider the student's interests to get them involved in different tasks, motivating them and taking in account their learning styles.
The classes are in Spanish, if it is necessary, I explain something in English, but the best way to learn a language is creating a dynamic class in an environment similar to the real immersion one using appropriate authentic materials. The Spanish I talk is neutral, I am Uruguayan and we do not have a marked accent, thing that is important when you learn a foreign language. I have a very important knowledge and experience designing and applying technological tools and techniques to the education of the Spanish language. My master's thesis was based on the lack of interaction detected in online courses, here in US.
I also teach Portuguese; I have studied and used it for 20 years for work with Brazilian companies and taught it for business and medical professionals.
I am an engineer so, I love math. In the past, I was a math teacher too for 11th & 12th grade, in a public high school Uruguay (Algebra Linear, Geometry, Calculus, Trigonometry) and as a private teacher; during last year, I have been tutoring my son in Calculus I and II at the University in Tennessee, where he studies Computer Engineering, with success. I believe that students need to do as many math exercises as they can and understand the way to solve the problems, "see" the solution. I am now beginning to tutor Algebra I, II, Geometry I, Trigonometry, Precalculus, etc. since I moved to USA last December.
I am eligible for Florida Teacher Certification.
I will be pleased to share my knowledge with you.

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I am engineer, graduated in Uruguay. I have been a Math teacher in public high school for 11 and 12 grade, in Uruguay (Geometry plane, Spacial Geometry, Descriptive Geometry, Math Analysis I & II, Algebra I and II, we have very deep Math courses in high school for those who studies Sciences). During my career I studied all kind of Math, some of them I like a lot, some others not so much that is why I am certified in those that I like most. I know the US programs, I have tutored my son here at University (engineering).
Most of the children don't like math, but the point is to understand how to think the problems and use the best corresponding tool to solve them. If you want to study a science major you need to know the bases of math, one of them is algebra.
I have been my son's tutor for Calculus I and Calculus II, here at Tennessee Tech University (engineering). Calculus is one of the most interesting Math! I taught them in high school in Uruguay for students that will go to College to study engineering. You have to do as many exercises as possible to get to be familiar with formulas, understand the solving process, be sure of the tools you are applying, not making unnecessary mistakes.
Well, I have learned so much about teaching foreign languages, different methodologies. They need to be taught in a different way, considering several individual factors and depending on the native language you speak.
I like to use de task based approach, one of the modern methodologies, "learning by doing".
I love Geometry. When I did geometry in high school, I used to see the solution of the problems immediately, my visions were true; I usually discussed with my teacher about that solution and I was always right! I know the different types of geometry: planar, spacial and descriptive.
I like Portuguese!!! I have a good pronounciation, people have allways asked me if I really was not brazilian.
Brazil is such an interesting and important country, not only in South America, in the world!! In both Economics and population!
I studied at Uruguayan-Brazilian Institute, in Uruguay and I have used it for working with brazilian companies during almost 20 years.
Music, culture, traditions, geography are very nice to be studied.
Other countries has Portuguese as its official language: Portugal (in Europe), Angola..
Togehter with Precalculus are the subjects you need to know as a basis for future studies (Algebra and Calculus) You need to understand them from the beginning, to have a solid knowlegde and not be afraid to go on with higher level courses
I have been teaching Spanish as a foreign language in Uruguay as an independent/private teacher; that is the way we do in Latin America when you teach our native language as a foreign one. I speak a native neutral Spanish. My students have been children of different ages and adults that used to come to settle in Punta del Este, where I lived, and who needed to learn Spanish to go on their studies in school or for working. Punta del Este, as a city, has grown during the past five years due to the european, northamerican, southafrican, brazilian and argentine people that came to live in a safer country. I had also been tutoring foreign high school students during the past five years, most of them high school American students while they were doing home education in US, using interactive web conference technology, and now, on-site in Bradenton. Those students were generally, athletes that trained different sports at IMG and studied in Florida Virtual School but supported by private tutors, who needed a Spanish teacher to help the students. Since 2006, I used to split my time between South America and US while my son studied his high school here and trained at IMG (that is why I was related to teachers/ tutors and students here in Florida), but now, I moved to Florida.
I do make students be interested for the diverse Hispanic and Latin American cultures motivating them, involving them in their learning process, doing tasks using the language in different contexts and regarding to their learning styles, interests, opinions and needs, using new information and communication technologies, motivating them with authentic didactic materials, videos, news, advertising, games, songs and things they like to do or are interested in.
They will learn to communicate, the grammar is important but its acquisition will be done using the language in a context.
