Florida Atlantic University (Biological Sciences)
FAU College of Science (Graduate Coursework)
I have six years of experience as a one-on-one tutor working for myself, but this is the first time I've used WyzAnt to find students. I've also worked at a local high school as a tutor for an accelerated program, specializing in math and science, subjects that I find fascinating and that are in great demand.
What I find interesting about tutoring is, firstly, my subject material, which is usually chemistry, biology, physics, calculus, algebra, geometry, statistics, and the like, which are all things I'd reintroduced myself to in college and found passion for each one. Secondly, and perhaps what drives me the most as a tutor, is finding a student who can't break through in one subcategory of one subject matter, explaining it to the student a bit differently from the textbook method, and linking the two together, and watching the student's face light up with understanding and hearing them gasp, "Ohhhhh!" Then, all of a sudden, each time they see the same problem or a similar one, it becomes simple work. I heard someone call it the A-ha Moment, and it drives me to tutor and share knowledge because having that impact on someone's education with one moment is such a wonderful feeling, both for the student and the tutor.
As a high school student, I took Calculus AB and Calculus BC as Advanced Placement courses, and I got fives on both the subsequent AP exams at the end of the years. I was able to achieve this because of a wonderful and knowledgeable calculus teacher, and as they say, I won't pay it back, I'll pay it forward.
At Florida Atlantic University I majored in both Biology and Biochemistry, and as a result I have a comprehensive and up-to-date knowledge on a broad field of science subjects, and I am prepared to share the finer points of these subjects and break them down for a more comprehensive understanding on the part of the student.
Whether you have an entire subject in which you are weak, a specific question type, or just want to increase your standardized test scores, contact me and I will help you to further both your knowledge and critical thinking. I am usually available for tutoring through the morning to early afternoons, and some full afternoons and nights. Contact me for more information and to align our schedules for the best appointment date.
I wish you the best on your journey through academics, and I will do whatever I can to help you retain as much as you can throughout the process. What I find interesting
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
As an undergraduate at FAU, I majored in biochemistry and achieved a bachelor of science degree in December of 2015. During my time as an undergrad, I studied HIV-1 under Dr. Massimo Caputi, whose laboratory utilized many basic concepts of biochemistry, cell biology and microbiology in their research. I am currently pursuing a masters of biomedical science degree at FAU.
I have always had a natural talent for math, to the extent that before I began as a tutor, people would seek me out for help with math, including Calculus. I got the highest possible overall marks on both my high school AP Calculus exams, and have been exposed to calculus in college.
I am currently a masters student in biomedicine at Florida Atlantic University. As an undergraduate I obtained two bachelors degrees, one of which was a BS in biochemistry. Chemistry has always been one of my greater interests, and I have a great deal of experience as a tutor of chemistry as well.
I am currently a biomedical student, but my first love so-to-speak was mathematics. I am a career math tutor, specializing in it as I tutored at Atlantic High School, and as a freelance tutor as my own business venture. I did quite well on my own SAT as well, achieving a 720 score on the math section in 2010, and I have been around students preparing for the SAT, as a tutor, since.
I consider myself a bit of a mathematical guru, as I received fives in the Advanced Placement exams for both Calculus AB and Calculus BC. I also received an A in honors statistics and experimental design in college as an undergraduate. I also have experience tutoring high school students as an AVID program tutor specializing in trigonometry, algebra, and calculus.
