Boston College (Romance Languages)
I am a first language English speaker who was fortunate to have a strict grammar enforcer for a mother. Therefore, I learned to speak and write English correctly from a very early age.
My first interest in Spanish was born in high school, and I majored in Spanish at Boston College, where I received my BA in Romance Languages in 1988. After college, I lived in Spain and the Canary Islands for a year, and then from 1992 through 2012 I lived in Puerto Rico. Having lived for so many years in Spanish-speaking countries, my Spanish is as polished as my English. I have also had a lifetime career in print media, writing stories in both languages.
My experience has given me a unique ability to understand the challenges faced by people trying to learn Spanish or English as a second language, and to help them make great strides in learning their target language efficiently.
Moreover, my formal education in Spanish allows me to better understand diction, a detail often overlooked by many teachers, and I make it a point to ensure that my students understand not only correct pronunciation, but also how to use their mouth to create the proper sounds to effect good pronunciation, thereby being better understood.
Working with me will help you learn your target language faster than you ever imagined possible. I am a first language English speaker who was fortunate to have a strict grammar enforcer for a mother. Therefore, I learned to speak and write English correctly from a very early age.

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I have been making a living as a freelance photographer since 1988. My work had appeared in national and international magazines and newspapers. I have also published a book of my photographs and the stories behind them.
I grew up on the Jersey Shore a stone's throw from the ocean with a pool in my backyard.
I have spent my life in and around the water.
For 20 years I lived in Puerto Rico where I made my living swimming with a camera in the ocean photographing surfers riding large waves.
Of my own volition I have taught many people, both children and adults, to swim over the years.
I grew up playing tennis at the oldest tennis club in the United States.
I have enjoyed recreational club tennis my entire life.
I have often played with friends who are only beginning their interest in tennis, and have made it my duty to help them improve their games.
