I earned a B.A. from Harvard in English and a Master's in Education from Lesley University. Also, I was an Adjunct Professor of freshman English composition. Currently, I am a full-time tutor and have a record of success improving students' ACT English scores.

ACT Reading

I am extremely patient and well-liked by my students. My specialty is English language arts, including reading comprehension, vocabulary and writing. I am proud of my successes in raising students' ACT reading test scores and schoolwork grades.

Handwriting

My course work for my Master's in Elementary & Secondary Education helped me prepare for tutoring handwriting. I have used a preschool curriculum called "Handwriting Without Tears."
I understand that a correct pencil grip and understanding of directionality are important elements of printing.

Hebrew

I have been a Director of Education in a variety of synagogue schools and Jewish Day Schools. I have a strong command of both biblical and modern Hebrew. Also, I have taught Hebrew language to a range of age groups -- from preschool to adults.

Public Speaking

I have significant experience in the art and science of public speaking. In my role as a private school administrator I have made many presentations, among my audiences are board members, families and teachers.
I also have experience teaching others to excel at public speaking. The qualities I emphasize include confidence, preparedness, proper volume and pacing, and awareness of body language. I also work on how to integrate materials such as handouts and PowerPoint while speaking. Practice and constructive feedback are extremely important. SAT Reading

I enjoy teaching social studies because it integrates so many different subject areas. When I was a grad student, I took courses in multiculturalism. As a Jewish educator I developed skills in teaching comparative religions and cultures. Also, my experience a a humanities instructor, with a particular emphasis on literature, brings a valuable perspective to teaching social studies. Study Skills

I earned a Master’s Degree in Education from Lesley University. Regardless of what subject I tutor, developing good study habits is an important part of the learning process. I evaluate a student's learning style and current study habits in order to work on any necessary changes. Organizational skills are key to healthy study habits. I encourage students to study at a consistent time and place, take breaks, and tackle difficult assignments first. But, most importantly, I enable students to figure out what works best for them.

Writing

I'm devoted full-time to tutoring English language arts. Writing well is a process that is both an art and a science. I have experience teaching various writing forms, including personal narratives, persuasive essays, research papers and college applications. I'm proud of my students' improvement on test scores and schoolwork.
