University of Miami (Art, Marketing, Entr)
A learner of photography and the arts, I have been dubbed as “destined to jettison ahead of the pack” and as an individual “found to be so blatantly on fire about her future” by photographer Maggie Steber. As a student who maintains close relationships with mentors willing to pilot me to my finest point, I continue to seek advice from this famed and favored National Geographic photographer and my photojournalism professor.
A dean’s list student at the University of Miami, I have explored many university options as I began at Emory, endured a stint at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago for fashion design, and ultimately committed myself to procuring an art, marketing, and entrepreneurship degree in Miami.
My interests range from photography to blogging and are challenged by my equal desires to perform musically and as a member of a university comedy troupe. I possess, from my time as a band section leader, the working ability to lead, and from my transition to fashion design school and new business initiation, the resourcefulness to “make it work.” A devout fashion lover, I recently decided it was time to take my notorious necessity for fashion eccentricities to a new level and to explore my oddly itching desire to explore my “too-many” artistic interests. My harshly obdurate love for the art of creation and music has left me no choice but to put my oddly assorted artistic abilities to unconventional and ironic use.
As a high schooler, I was a member of my National Honor Society and tutored students weekly in high school subjects. I was also a volunteer at my local Temple as I taught kindergarteners and 3rd graders Hebrew, spelling, reading, and math for their regular schools. I have been a percussionist for over ten years, am deeply in love with mallet and marching instruments alike, and have grown to pursue the visual arts as well. I was the captain of my drum line in high school for two years and loved nothing more than helping the other students learn new passages and accomplish set goals. Through my new exploration, I have decided that I would like to teach and spread my desire to learn about just about everything. Let me know if we seem to be a good fit; I always love to help. In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I have partaken in band since I was in 6th grade and have assumed several high-ranking positions in county-wide bands and solo competitions. I was captain of my high school percussion section and drumline for two years where I assisted with sectionals and individual learning and gave private lessons to several of those students outside of school.
I have been a percussionist for over ten years and, after graduating from college, continue to give lessons for concert and marching percussion including mallet instruments. In addition to winning multiple scholarships from universities and private competitions, I was a part of my county's All District band for 6 years running. I am also a tutor for creative writing, English, and Economics at a local tutoring institution, an experience that has improved my interactions with children and teenagers.
I have a portfolio that I can show to demonstrate my abilities. I have been studying painting for the past three years and have learned to paint in Surrealist, Impressionist, Realist and Abstract styles. My paintings range from studies of other artists such as Stuart Davis to renditions of my own ideas and personal experiences.
